PDX Pop Now! Almost Now!

So, I’ve been out of the blogging swing for a little while, but for a couple of good reasons. This week, it’s been the leadup and last minute scrambling to prep for PDX Pop Now! 2005. The festival starts tomorrow (I’ll be there at noon to decorate, but music won’t actually be played until 6:30pm) and runs all through the weekend. There are 46 bands playing including some exciting super secret “special guests”. You can figure out how to join me with the help of this map of Loveland.

You should check out the full festival schedule to figure out what you want to see, but I’m especially psyched about Saturday afternoon: hard to beat the diversity and quality of Tara Jane O’Neil, Jackie O Motherfucker, Pom Pom Meltdown, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Lackthereof, and Quivah all in a row. Although Chevron, The Blow, 31 Knots, and Viva Voce sure give it a shot on Friday as do a bunch of the bands on Sunday including Science of Yabra, Alan Singley, We Quit, the Cajun Gems, and Talkdemonic spread out through the night.

The festival’s been getting some amazing press this week, including a preview in the Oregonian, the Willamette Week’s preview which included the full schedule, and a cover story with full reviews of every band in the Mercury. Also, the festival inspired a WWeek reveiw of the year in Portland music (looks like PDX Pop is officially Portland music’s New Year’s Eve), and the Oregonian made some recommendations for which bands not to miss.

In the midst of this, we also pushed Music For Dozens to full beta. The site got a makeover, we’ve got pretty much all our features working: track uploading, cd purchasing, commenting, social networking, making artists. We’ve got some things to smooth out in the coming weeks, but it’s really starting to look like the site we set out to make at the start of this upgrade process. In the coming days, I’ll finish the history of Music For Dozens that I started here, bringing you all the way up to date, I promise.
