Well we packed up our snoopy and headed west.
The west coast is truly the better of the two coasts, I don’t care what anyone says about “Brooklyn” or “lobsters” or “Cape Cod Or Whatever” or “the verdant green of North Carolina.”
The snoopy lay on his bed for 3 straight days, mellow as a cucumber, only a bit perturbed every once in awhile by bumps or curves. Also once he abruptly barked at someone in the next lane, which took us by surprise. Old man drinking a big gulp, tooling along on the 84 next to us. Little did he know, a furious guard-dog was keeping watch.
We arrived in our old hometown to find a cool crew of friends! Nicole, whose house this was, had put flowers on our porch and champagne in our fridge. Steve arrived and doled out hugs and comical observations. Adam and Sarah even drove the entire way from southeast, which moved me extremely as I know they hate doing it. Everyone praised the dog for being skinny and funny and a nerd. It was so strange/amazing to see him interacting with these old Lifetime Friends, my new snoopy and my old snoopys not knowing each other?! It seems like the important people in your life should all know each other. But dog-snoopy was like “WTF DON’T TOUCH ME.” He warmed up pretty quick. If you throw a ball for him he’ll be pretty into you, he’s like me with food.
Our little wee cottage! It’s so nice! It’s old and weird and slanty and has brown painted floors and all kind of nooks and crannies. After seeing Steve’s amazing new house, we unloaded the truck, drank a bottle of champagne in our yard, then furiously set to work. We got it mostly set up by the next day, although we still need some furniture and lamps. We’re about to drive our empty 16-foot moving truck to Jae’s house to pick up one chair and one bookshelf. I like imagining that we rented the truck just for this errand. “We didn’t know how BIG the chair would be!!!!!”
Frank has been very emo and stressed by this whole thing. People coming over, coming inside, everything in disarray, his routine all thrown off. We finally realized the bedroom window was stressing him out, because he can see the sidewalk from it. So we shut him out of there and he got a lot better. But it’s clear we’re going to have to start all over with leaving him alone in the house, etc. He’s also been barking A LOT, barking at joggers, racing at passersby with his hackles raised: UNACCEPTABLE, very stressful for all concerned but especially us as we’re the one who has to figure out how to explain to him when barking is appropriate. My hope is that as people keep coming by, and his routine gets settled, and he gets used to things, he will stop?? I don’t know. We have all kinds of dog-whispering tactics but they don’t really work. Poor snoopy, he wants to do a good job but how does he know what his job is??? I need to teach him!
But anyway. Then Mike and Josh took us to dinner and I didn’t bring my wallet and I totally forgot where I was!!!! You can’t get into so many places here without your ID! Even just restaurants, sometimes. If they have booze, it’s always sketchy. Amazing that I’ve been gone so long I completely forgot about it. I felt like a fucking rube. What kind of an asshole forgets their wallet in Oregon????? So we had to go elsewhere, and there was a twisty-tie in Mike’s salad. He didn’t say anything about it.
Cool friends, cool life! I can’t wait to see the rest of you sons of bitches. We will have a housewarmer soon, with pizza and weird beer. Soon as we get our fire pit.
But the coolest thing is, we figured out our office zones, and Gary got first choice this time because I have gotten first choice the last two times
Just took a 5 hour break to go furniture shopping: am now utterly destroyed and enervated. Will finish sentence……..
so Gary chose the bedroom which is weird but cool for him and I chose the PANTRY which is REALLY weird but turned out pretty cool for me here it is huzzah to all
YAYYYYY
Look at all those books! We need to go to each others’ houses and check out all each others’ books.
& your gnarly old office chair from, like, property disposession at some random university! YES. Those chairs are awesome.
does the pantry really have a window, or is that a mirror/artwork?
NICE DAMN MHANTA INITIATIVE LOGO BTW
I have you to thank for that. It is such a treasure! Brings me much solace in my direst of straits
Welcome!!!
We moved here about two months before you did, in our 10 foot budget truck, with our little lab mix in his bed between the two bucket seats, getting practically blown over on the fucking highway in Wyoming. And we are JUST NOW actually getting settled into our home! We’ve spent the last couple months living like losers in my mom’s basement while we put in closets and painted and new wood floors and junk. Man, it feels good to be moved in!!!!
Maybe I’ll see you around town. What neighborhood do you guys live in?
We live in North! Off Lombard. You’ll know us by our snoopy!
