Yeah, but it's good that it's above ground. You'd want to get the place tested for contamination before you sign. Oil heat isn't the end of the world, though. I would definitely read up on it.
I think this house has been on the market for forever. My friend used to rent it. Location sucks, but it seems like a decent enough house for under 180k? Maybe there's something wrong with it...
Because she doesn't realize that a house on 152nd Ave is way too far out and also she has kind of bad taste. None of her houses have been ones that I would purchase. I love my mom, but she is very much a Wal-Mart shopper. She doesn't place much importance on quality craftsmanship.
We just went on our first two viewings! Off to a good start. One of them was one I would strongly consider if it wasn't on a busy street.
100k!? 100k is a LOT of money for a remodel. 100k is what the dude spent on remodeling my house, and he completely gutted the whole thing, put in new everything (electric, gas, walls, roof, carpet, kitchen, bathroom, landscaping).
FL, yeah I just mean 100k max, depending on how fancy you get. But it needed all new everything. Maybe keep the roof, but re-do all the floors, paint it all, change the exterior of the fireplace, replace everything in the kitchen, replace everything in the bathroom... it really needed it all.
OH GOD. Remember the condo that tipped off this whole crazy real estate thing for me? The one that was like a treehouse that I loved so much? A 2 bdrm place opened up in that same building on SE Ash and it is BEAUTIFUL! 259k! It's so lovely. It doesn't make a whole lot of financial sense (HOA dues are $366/mo), but boy is it pretty. I want someone to buy it!
We looked a place in that building. Ultimately the cost, the HOA dues, and the lack of any outdoor space turned us off. Amazing location/spaces though.
I feel sad because apartments now feel way off limits for me because of a snoopy, who gives a barking sometimes, and whose clicky-clacketing pacing on a hardwoods would drive me absolutely batshit insane if I lived underneath him. Am I way too uptight about my neighbors possibly hating my dog, or am I the world's most thoughtful and empathetic neighbor???????????? Either way it sucks because apartments are cheaper than house
Our upstairs neighbors have a biggish dog and hardwood floors. Doesn't bother us. Occasionally we hear him skittering around, but never at night, and he's not a barker, so it's relatively chill.
If he was barking a bunch, I'd definitely feel differently. Either way, probably better than having young children upstairs.
I love my dog/home situation! Ukiah clumps around all day long (when he's not with his other guardian in NY), which must get annoying for my downstairs tenant, but then I walk and sleep with her dog for her so she can't really complain, right? Dog lovers just deal.
Outbid. Not surprising considering the circumstances. That property is located near some properties over a million dollars, so I'm sure a lot of well off people were into it. We heard that one prospective buyer was planning to immediately add a 2nd story.
Oh man! I totally missed this whole process, MZ. I even missed your comment on FB about putting an offer in (I only saw the link to the house). That's HUGE and stressful! Good job! How did it feel?
The first offer is never the house you should actually end up in (something everyone tells themselves, but is probably also true).
Yeah. Because we bought a condo and there's way less competition for condos, we weren't in a competitive bid type of situation, which felt a lot less stressful.
Is it just me or did almost nothing come on the market today? Really crazy Monday in real estate PDX, unless I have a weird filter on my search or something.

But yeah, it was slightly stressful, but mitigated by the fact that
A) I was pretty sure we were gonna get outbid on this particular property.
and
B) I knew that if we got it and managed to make the payments, the property value was going to be very secure.
Re: my previous comment - I had a filter set to only show me houses on .25+ acres. :)
