All these realty photos and their overuse of the HDR effect is so weird. It's made to make less shadows and brighten everything but it ends up making things look grubby and unrealistic and not home-y. WEIRD.
Ian built an amazing cedar sauna at his old house- wood stove that opened from the outside of the sauna (no ash inside!) It also had a couple of opaque glass blocks with candle spots on the outside so the inside would be softly lit. Also an outdoor shower. So lux!
I am going to push him to start a summer sauna-building business now that the tiny house is done!
I know! I wonder how far down it will go. I think ours sold for around $227k when it was in a similar state, and I think ours was a better starting point, so....
Eek! It's so hard! My loan people made me do a second inspection, which seemed super weird and got me nervous. But I guess they just wanted to make sure everything was legit because the owner bought my place for $180k and was selling it for $335k, and I think they wanted to make sure the place wasn't going to fall apart 2 months after I moved in.
Got the keys today! Seems like they can't take it away from us now. We took a TV over and ate some pizza while watching some weird NBC show that's kind of like the old "Win, Lose, or Draw" show if you remember that. Celebs playing games in a living room set.
The thing I don't get about that house is what's the deal with that wall between the kitchen and the living room? Tear that shit down! Then you'd have an okay house, IMO.
HEY, which reminds me: BillMc and I are in a debate about the cost of doing DIY house renovation stuff - please weigh in. There is a wall in my house (not a bearing wall) between two rooms. I would like to open the wall and put in some french doors like these:
BillMc says this would cost $8000+ dollars and I think he is insane. To be fair, this is what he says it would cost to hire somebody else to do it, and to do all the finishing (like the molding) really well, etc., but I still think he's nuts. Anybody know anything about this kind of thing?
Just get your dad to do it for free! that's what I'd do CLASSIC DAD JOB My dad hates shit like this but he knows how to do it because he is an Old School Man; I assume all men born before 1960 know how to do stuff like tear down a wall, fix a car, etc. Just like all women born before 1960 can sew a dress and make meringue. I mean I'm kind of joking, I'm sure this is not true, or only true of middle class people anyway, and of course I would not ask my 72 year old dad to come renovate my house. But 20 years ago he would have done it in a heartbeat and it would've been fun ASK DADDY
I bet you could hire a scrappy punk rock DIY critter to do it. I know a girl who is comfortable re-roofing her house and doing the wiring and stuff and I bet you could hire her for cheaper than professionals
You could also do it yourself using YouTube tutorials and the Tool Library in Kenton.
Yeah, at one point Shannon told me it would be like $10k to finish a particular basement we were standing in, so this job seems like it would be way less than $8k.
For the record: apparently my memory was incorrect and Matt estimated it would be $6-8k not $8k+. Also, I publicly apologize for calling him "insane" and "nuts." Also, the doors we talked about are not exactly like the doors shown in the picture above. Also, Matt says this was mean of me so I take it back.
Wow, that's a really good find. Right across from the killer P's & Q's Market. I'm out of town on the open house day, otherwise I would walk over and see it just out of curiosity :)

Oh god dreamhouse with all those windows.
It was fixed up by the same guy who did my house and is maybe 100-300 sq. ft. bigger than my house? Wow.
