  • rent an apartment!

the hotels are expensive, and if cheap, sometimes weird.
renting a little studio is about the same price, and you'll have privacy and a place to eat your baguettes in peace.

  • what's that place where it's like craigslist but with more vacation apts....
  • Air BnB

    Really fun site.
  • We found our paris apartment on craigslist
give it a shot, it's so awesome and so much cheaper. There are lots of different vibes on there--students just renting for a week, or insanely fancy vacation homes, etc.

have also heard great things about Air BnB
  • Air BnB is cool. I've rented places off of this site.

note: the site charges a percentage for rentals. Most people will work with you outside of the site to avoid this charge. A nice thing to do is to rent one night off of the site so you can post nice reviews of their place, but rent the rest of the nights on the DL.

  • we have a friend that does air bnb in portland. funny stories, she haz them.

i'm more of the type that's like "im going to go to this hotel and if it's awesome i will go back next time because i love the service and they got me an awesome reservation."

i loved our last hotel in the latin quarter (good location) but it was like 200E a night and, even though it was well planned, it wasnt the best (room was small and the bathroom was smallest). my wife just found a p.starck designed hostel but...we're like 30 now, hostels were great when i was 18-22 and i have a little more disposable income.
  • Stayed at Hotel Metropol. Nothing fancy, convenient, family owned. By Gare du Nord. Could probably do better, could certainly do worse for the price (<100E-ish). Looking at it now online it seems like price varies quite a bit depending on which service you use. Looks like you have more budgeted, so might prefer a different approach.

Feels Like Home In Paris is run by a really cool gal named Yutunde who meets you there to help settle in, and has a cool binder of suggested things to check out in the neighborhood at each place, and will bring you spare chargers/converters from her house if you forgot them at home like an idiot.

I've used the service twice, both times were awesome. If you have 2-3 people it is less than most hotels from what I've found, though for a single person staying less than a week it might not compare. Tara and I stayed in the 1BR "Cozy Carpeaux" and another one (with parents and Mikey!) that I can't find on their site anymore. Options in the 600-800e/wk range but some are lots higher so pick and choose. They also have specials from time to time.

It also looks like they have a blog now.
