How bout this one? Ever heard of these guys? Some of these guys made UrHo. Others of these guys made UrHo great. New album "Shangri La" out June 21. Its good.
1975 London born of African parents. This is the song sampled for Eminem's first single "My Name Is," but Labi wouldn't release the song with violent lyrics towards gays and women. Great record. This is worth a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labi_Siffre
Its the guy who made the 2010 summer smash "Summer Heart." This Victoria, BC blaster will be playing the free YACHT afterparty at Wonder Ballroom on Saturday night. I've listened to his jams so much the last year plus. Don't miss out.
Italo disco track that I found really randomly last week doing YouTube research. 1982. Joyous Check out this excerpt from a review of this track of discogs.com by a user named PabloPlato: The sharp & shrill vocals - cringe inducing for the uninitiated, but for those entrenched in italo disco - are the vocal style that make our brains explode in an array of neon rainbows & gelatto flavoured smoke & fog. The joyous chorus is punctuated by blissful & elated "hey hey"s and the deeper sounding "ahh can't you feel it!" that sounds like the singer is struggling (and to our enoyment, failing) to contain her rapturous spirit bursting from the seams of her flesh.
All the reviews I read diss the funny clumsy rapping section.
The band is a modern band that exists in the year 2011 (just like us!). It's a dude who plays in a more well known band called The War on Drugs. This music is supposed to be about sleep or interpretation of dreams. This is the first two songs on the album (which is called Forget the Mantra) and I put them together (like what I did with the James Blake album). It's a little post-Panda Bear but the palette is wider. The album is nice to hear.
This is a Japanese folk rock band that existed in the very early 1970s. I heard this playing in a bar and used my iPhone to find out what it was (I USED AN APP!) This is from the album Kazemachi Roman and the whole album is GREAT! One of the dudes from Happy End went on to be in Yellow Magic Orchestra. This is what wikipedia says about the album that this song is on: Kazemachi Roman (風街ろまん Kazemachi Roman?) translated literally as Wind City Romance, is the second album by Japanese folk rock band Happy End, released in 1971 in Japan on URC Records. In this concept album, Happy End attempted to paint a musical picture of Tokyo before the 1964 Summer Olympics, through which sweeping changes transformed the city forever. Bannai Tarao (多羅尾伴内 Tarao Bannai?), a fictional Japanese detective, who has appeared in many Japanese crime thrillers, is credited on several of the album's songs. In addition, the singer on "Haikara Hakuch", even opens the song by saying, in English, "Hi, this is Bannai Tarao. Haikara (lit. "High-collar[1]" or "Western fashion") is... Beautiful."
From 1996. Maybe the biggest song in the history of Chicago rap. Huge regionally. Kinda Bone Thugsy. Then these guys beefed with Bone Thugs. Weird cool phased out/muddy sound. Into it.
Fam-Lay is one of the most underrated rappers of all time. From the Virginia/Neptunes camp, he never got to put out a proper album but every stray song of his or that feature him that would leak out was a highlight. Also this is maybe the meanest beat of all time.
