Homes For Friends

edited May 2013
If anyone knows of rooms or houses where some nice friends might be able to live please drop me an email! (kmikeym@kmikeym.com)

Some of the nice people here in The Program are planning on sticking around Portland for a while and they are looking for places. Thanks!

  • I am thinking about renting a room once Bill Mc. moves out in August. Anyone interested in September or beyond can get in touch!
  • I have a friend looking for a sublet or month to month situation (or lease if the place is right) for $500 or less. A lady of 19 years.
  • K & I may take on short term roommates at our new spot in Irvington when we move in in August. 19 is pretty young tho, who dat?
  • YOU GOT DAT IRVINGTON SHEE?
  • Yeah, I mentioned her age because it's probably best if she's roomies with people in that same phase of life #WEOLD.

She's my BFF's BFF. So that's BFF once removed? I always forget how it works.
  • Supremely devoted fan of our own Fudge Eerie, Adrian Orange, Jason Anderson aka "our kind of people".
  • Ashby is subletting her place in the Oak Street for the summer. $500.
  • Confirmed: Got that Irvy shee. STOKED.
Next Door Neighbors of two exceptional UHX members!
    Two stories!
    3 Bedrooms!
Two Fireplaces! (One in the master BR)
    Two Baths!
    Month to Month!

Y'all gotta help break it in with a proper supper party!
  • I got pre-approved for a home but it's weirder with owning your own biz. Gonna wait a year to get a higher loan from 2013 tax records.

I should also note that that the biggest bummer about our new spot is that K had to move out of another awesome spot beforehand with the amazing lady friend of Mr. Boatshoes due to an unfortunate reaction to some of the qualities of old, cool housishness. It's probably gotten snatched up by now but if not THERE IS A VERY NICE ROOM in the cutest house with the nicest human for a very nice price! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
  • Stoked to have you back on the East side. Now I can see you more (allergic to West side).
  • NEIGHBORS!

We've already been BBQing with these fools like twice a week. To be continued...
  • If anybodyis looking for a pricey-ish but really nice apartment on NW 21st and Hoyt and doesn't mind loud bros/sises on the weekends, mine and Sasha's place will be available on or around July 21st.
  • yeah, so stoked for more BBQs with our rad neighbors! Also, stoked for gardeners only twice a week as opposed to 6 times a week at 8am.
  • My awesome NYC friends are moving to Portland! They were both chefs at fancy restaurants! And they need a home!

    The usual:
close in, wood floors, ~1100, 2BR+
Lemme know if you hear of anything?

    xo
  • My man Burns needs it. He's just a guy trying to make a living in this damned world.

Little bit of privacy... roomies OK
    ~$600, room for sleep/work
    Close in

    God bless
  • HEYO

I'm gonna be looking for a sweet 1 BR or studio or something come October 1 (ish). Not married to any special zone, though I work in SE and prefer to stay on the E side...

Ya'll got any friends moving around whose places are opening up? Ya'll seen somethin special?

Loop me in! I can pay about $800, though anything less would be GREAT.

    Probably no roommates...
  • Where my cool homes at
  • I surprisingly have nothing! It's a tight rental market- good luck!
  • YIPES. WTF am I doing this for right at the same time I'm gonna vacation right quick to Texas -- bring on the stress!
  • Lolo, I doubt this would interest you, but throwing it out there for anyone...

I have a single-car detatched garage that I think could make a cool little abode if fixed up. It currently has electric but no plumbing. It's seriously just a garage - would need lots of help, but it might be a cool project for someone + me? Also have an extra bedroom (but my place is 730 sq. ft. or something, so it's small - you'd have to like me a lot). Maybe someone could live in extra bedroom while working with me to fix up garage space? I don't know. I'm brain-dumping, I have no idea if I would even want to do this. I just love the idea of converting spaces and it seems like detached studios are in demand right now.

  • I'm not sure that's the spot for me, but I love that you're going to make a lil apartment! That's exciting.

I'm behind you, rooting for you.
  • I just became aware of a studio apartment on 14th and Hawthorne opening up Oct. 1. Landlord is a friend of a friend - nice guy. Price somewhere between $700-$750, I'm told. Let me know if you want more info.
  • Yes please!

I almost lived here once upon a time, cute studios in a good location.
  • I think I want a 1 bedroom guys!

Arijkem -- I've been eyeing that building.
  • Ya, it's nice. A nice lady I know lives there and her place is cozy and airy. But yes, a studio.
  • I looked at a place last night -- it's at SE 21/Pine in a small/medium sized community (a series of 3-4 buildings with 4 apartments in each)

    The Pros:
    $755/month for 1 bedroom
VERY cute space (lots of cupboards and storage spaces)
    lots of natural light
    Safe, covered bike storage
    W/D on site
    Cats OK: PURR

    The Cons:
    There's carpet...
There's not really a patio or outdoor space (but there is a fire escape right outside one of the windows)

I have until Sunday to decide!
Going to look at more places this week --

FINDING A SPOT IS WEIRD AND HARD!
  • one thing you can do to live with carpet is put RUGS ON TOP OF IT and pretend you chose the rugs purely of your own volition. Cool handsome rugs can really make a place look good and they also liberate you from the heinous carpet landlords keep insisting on putting down, WHY DO THEY
  • I had carpet in my last apartment. It was mostly fine.
  • Much harder to get blood/vomit/shit out of carpet tho LBH #tbt
  • I'm not totally disgusted by carpet. At all, actually. Just get a carpet cleaner and deep clean that shit!

But also: you might be able to tear it up, right? Ask the landlord?

I think it sounds pretty good.
  • I hate carpet

    1. It is gross. Fabric that innumerable strangers who lived there before you have walked on with shoes; spilled food on; fucked on; no thanks! Would you move into an apartment with clothes and bed and bedding all still there and just use it? No you wouldn't!
    2. It is impossible to get dog hair out of it even with the finest vacuum in the world
    3. It always looks ugly because landlords are cheapskates
    4. It is bad for doing yoga on
  • It is good for doing situps on if you have a prominent tailbone.
Also, sometimes it is nice to lay on a carpeted floor because germs are everywhere so fuck it. The floor is a good place to think sometimes.
I prefer a half wood floor and half carpeted place. I had that at my first Portland apartment. Pretty sweet.

I say go for it Lo.
  • "Would you move into an apartment with clothes and bed and bedding all still there and just use it? No you wouldn't!"

Yes I would! I'd just clean them really well first.

But then again, I have no sense of smell and I think maybe this impacts my ability to find things gross in general. Also, one of the best things about having travelled in India as a poor cheapskate when I was younger is that now absolutely everything in America seems unbelievably clean/nice comparatively. Haven't washed my sheets in a month? No biggie! That's NOTHING compared to "sleeping" for 19 hours on a cramped, wet, filthy, sandy, (poopy? who knows!) mattress on a bus from somewhere to somewhere in India.

  • I'm mainly moving in so I can fuck on dirty carpet.

    YOLO
  • The lil dog who was in there is one of those fancy dogs that "doesn't shed"

The current tennant has only lived there since May (before that the carpets, albiet shitty-boring-beige, were replaced)
  • We just moved into a carpeted apt. I thought I would hate it, but it's not bad! I lay around on it with the cat, sit, stretch, do sit-ups. New active carpet life!
  • Yeah, I have to admit I'm starting to dig carpeting. If it's good quality (wool is nice!), unstained, not ancient and a decent color it can be really cool. Ian and I went to look at a sweet 1970's split level ranch in SW Portland last weekend that had wood floors on the main floor and carpeting upstairs and in the cool romper room- I LOVED it! Also if a person has a baby it's nice to have a cushioned surface for all that crawling and falling and also it will catch the drool so you don't slip in it.
  • How many people have to DIE from slipping on baby drool before the government takes action! GOD DAMN IT PEOPLE!!!
  • Muzzles not bombs!
  • Our babies' drool is already over-regulated. We should put our trust in the free market. If a few people die, that's collateral damage aka cost of doing baby.
  • Have you heard about the new gourmet drool bar craze? They're called Droolery Stores. They've got branches in Abu Dhabi, Paris, Marfa. Hot or iced. All kinds of herbal infusions. It's pretty great!
  • They actually just opened one next to the Safeway in West Linn! It's called Cool Droolz.
  • i don't care what you dingbats say or what kind of drool they drink in Abu Dhabi, CARPET SUX
