It's time! Goodbye after work runs, hello driving to work not in the dark.

  • Whoa... I just got super confused...
  • I fell back so hard this afternoon over some awesome yummy Korean food in Beaverton.

There are a few places there I wish were here in my city. Driving there is the pits.

The machines take care of it for me. (The fall back.)
  • I'm still amused at 4:11am Me up there. I somehow managed to stay up SUPER LATE on the one night that you get a free hour! I was not happy in that moment.
  • Other fall backs...

When I want a lot of warm food I fall back on the BBQ Brussels Bowl at Bye and Bye.
When I have a substitute and I don't want to write up a whole big thing about whatever writing project my class is in the middle of I fall back on letting them free write.
When I need a break from Portland and want to give myself a little treat I always fall back on wine tasting around Dundee.
  • At my house there is a couch I like to call "the beach" because it's right by the woodstove and right underneath a "Blues Buster" lightbulb. In the evenings, the warmth and light on that couch makes one feel like they are suntanning.

Wanda, if you haven't tried the Southern Bowl at Canteen on 28th and Stark, you should check it out.

    Hot tip, MZ! Thanks!
  • Canteen is SO good, right? I want to bathe in that yellow sauce.
  • I love Canteen!!!!! Only been there once but think of it often
Also Sip is what finally made me understand smoothies

    fall backs:

When I can't think of what to make for dinner I fall back on spaghetti
When I can't make myself exercise I fall back on taking a bath
When I don't know what I'm talking about I fall back on wikipedia
When I want to "go out and celebrate" I fall back on Lovelies

    oh Lovelies

I wish I were at you right now
  • Spaghetti is a popular fall back. Around here we call it "cat food" sometimes because it's just a thing to put in your bowl when food planning is overwhelming.

When I get morbidly depressed and I don't know what to do with myself "the beach" is a good fall back.

When I am homesick watching the news from Québec online is a nice fall back.

When I am distracted and want to interact UHX is a fun fall back.
  • Our food fall back is grilled cheese and whatever side vegetable can be added.
  • Let's all agree to make grilled cheese "dunkers" and dip them into our soups!
  • Man. You know what's really good in grilled cheese? Picked jalapenos. I feel like we've talked about this.
  • I ATE GRILLED CHEESE DUNKERS YESTERDAY
    great fall back food

I dunk in tomato soup mostly

    here is my griller standby:

    - Dave's killer bread: sweet nutty bread is better for griller than classy sourdough, I don't know why

    - sharpest cheddar

    - grill it til melty

    - serve with big pile of arugula you can pick up with your fingers and stuff in bites of sammy; also with side of Freddy's crazy pear rhubarb preserves you can periodically spread on a bite

    - also big crunchy dill pickle, obviously, and soup for dunkers

    HURRAH FOR AMERICA
  • I voted for DUNKERS
  • My dunkers recipe:
-Two pieces of GF brown rice and almond bread slightly toasted.
-Spread Marmite on one toast, Grainy mustard on the other.
-Put thinly sliced tomato slices on mustard and goat cheddar on Marmite.
-Slam the two pieces of bread together.
-Fry in a pan with a little bit of olive oil.

    You are a champion!

I will share with you my secret for delicious grilled sandwiches
You put mayonnaise (vegan or not, it all has oil) on the outside of the bread instead of butter or olive oil.

It makes it all caramelized and tangee and MAX like Emeril! KICK IT UP ANOTHER NOTCH!!
  • This one time someone made me a grilled cheese with mayonnaise straight-up on it though and I thought it was really wrong.
  • You mean... on the inside???????? Yeah, that is r-o-n-g wrong.
  • No, a childhood friend's family used to make them that way and I really loved it. Never done it myself tho.
  • this is a tradition for some people: mayo on the inside. I think it is a moral sin.

mayo on the outside sounds bril! I will try next time
  • there is a joke about it on 30 Rock a long time ago. Kenneth goes to Tracy's house to make some impassioned speech to his wife. Somehow he gets a grilled cheese and we forget about him while other characters are talking but then suddenly at the end it cuts to him and he yells with joyful, gleeful amazement "THIS GRILLED CHEESE HAS MAYONNAISE ON IT!!"
