  • How did they open all the beers? Were they in cans?
  • Maybe they bit them
  • That's what I do.
  • sounds like a GREAT party!
  • My favorite part about that news article was when they were describing the clothes that the bears had on
  • Ps I bet they didnt drink all that bevy they just let it soak into the linoleum those people had so much be*r
  • I put up some peaches the other night and was left with some nice nectar/juice at the end. Mixed it with some dry vermouth (Gallo is my favorite; hate Martini and Rossi).
  • Agassi and I bought some Russian sparkling water that was so salty it was undrinkable.
  • SHANDY!
  • In a moment I intend to be drinking some Lake Washington!
  • I totally got a UTI on my high school exchange trip to da Black Sea from that salty mineralnii
  • Yesterday's beverage highlight: shandy on the Jantzen Beach Red Lion patio, overlooking the Columbia, after a hot bike ride in Vancouver. We didn't figure they could make us an off-menu beverage, so we ordered a beer and a lemonade and mixed our own.
  • Oh, the Stiegl Radler is popping up around town. They have it on tap at bunk bar and I had one at NePo 45.
  • Half a cucumber (from my garden!) and the juice from a whole lime muddled in a carafe of water, refrigerated, and enjoyed glass by glass all day.

    Very refreshing!
  • I just finished a bottle of Bell's Oberon while watching "Newsroom." This was just after making some fried rice with peppers and onions for dinner (and lunch tomorrow, and at least one more meal after that - leftovers rule!).
  • I've been grilling swordfish steaks and drinking white wine.
  • I've been having Kefir for breakfast and I like it!
  • warm water
  • This past weekend, on vacation, my drink was sweet tea vodka with ice, water, and a lemon slice. I'M IN LOVE.
  • Last night: fresh berry margarita (with salt) at Mextiza on Killingsworth. So good!
  • Last night I had lots of margaritas that had orange in it and was really delicious. Also last night we got turned away from a bar because my friend was wearing a hat, which was weird. Also I learned that it is illegal to have credit card minimums.
  • Totes illegal, but good luck arguing against NYC bodega owners.
  • Wait, that might have changed recently. I remember something about it.

    VISA's site says

    Minimum Purchase
U.S. retailers may require a minimum purchase amount on credit card transactions. The minimum purchase amount must not exceed $10 and does not apply to transactions made with a debit card.

More research indicates that this changed with the Dodd-Frank Act! Wild. Read more: http://creditcardforum.com/blog/credit-card-minimum-purchase/
  • Something tells me the bodega owners would not care about the debit card distinction.
  • They should just use the Square fixed monthly fee system and stop bugging us with minimums.
  • I made up a drink, y'all, and I need your help naming it. It is bourbon with a dash of elderflower syrup and orange bitters. It reminds me that fall is coming. Any ideas?

That drink reminds me of Redwall. May I suggest the Church Mouse?

  • The Crisp Air
    The Woodsmoke
    The J Crew Sweater

I am having flu-y feelings that make it painful to live.
I am going to try a shot of lime juice, garlic and sri racha to chase these evil spirits from my body.

I'll give you an update in some hours.

    Corndogs must go on.
  • What is the correct beverage to pair with corn dog? Thanks
  • Lemonade. Duh.

  • You are absolutely right.

I think a hoppy beer would also be suitable.
  • In addition to spicy garlic potion I popped 4 ibuprofen. Fever is breaking. Feeling a burn in my belly. But this is better than the rest of the day.....

IF your head is holding pressure, I recommend a soup of
    Garlic
    Cayenne
    Paprika
    Black Pepper
    Jalapeno

    and tempeh for protein

    p.s. Get well soon!
  • Thank you. BTW, this is an achy bones / weak-feeling ill, not a head cold. Potions sem to be helping. Sweating. Less achy.
  • Hey! Guess what I'm eating right now!

Some of that puffed couscous or whatever from Trader Joes (love this stuff)
    Broccoli in there
Mixed around with some olive hummus
    Throw in some flax seeds
    Topped with a fried egg

Yum! Highly recommend this thrown-together lunch.
  • I ate a health blast smoothie and a hard boiled egg for lunch
    I didn't enjoy it
    but that wasn't the point
  • After a venerated business man let me in on his secret to success (4 to 5 cups a day), I am ON coffee! Going to just drink it all damn day long. This is day two and I feel SO HAPPY.
  • This is a fucking great call LT.
  • I am interested in tracking this subject's progress. Andy just got a cold and I told her about UBS's "coffee all day" cure, but she isn't going for it.
  • On my third cup. BUSINESS IS GETTING DONE.

I didn't put a tie on this morning so I could sit around and drink tea.
  • I have been drinking coffee all the time and have just suffered the ever-resulting migraine.

It makes me feel so good, and then so so SO BAD.

Is it worth the risk? I don't suffer from it (my DNA testing says I'm good at caffeine consumption) so I try to stay in an optimal productivity zone.

I am trying to help an acquaintance set up a very basic liquor cabinet and learn to make some key drinks. Here's what I'm thinking of recommending:

    Gin
    Bourbon
    Dry vermouth
    Sweet vermouth
    Angostura bitters
    Rose's lime juice
    Maybe creme de cassis?
    Obviously, fresh citrus
    Tonic water

    With that, she could make:

Martini (my preference: 1930s style, with actual vermouth in it)
    Gimlet
    G&T
    Manhattan
    Old fashioned
Vermouth cassis (or kir if she has white wine)
    Tom or John Collins
    Bourbon sour
Dry + sweet vermouth, mixed to taste (I don't know if this has a name but it's delicious)
    Mint julep

Of course, if she got just one other base, it would help, but nothing is as versatile as gin and bourbon.

    What do you think?
  • I had one of these yesterday, and it really hit the spot:
