OK. Can we talk about work out tunes? Abba and Rihanna only get me so far on my runs. Will you athletic friends please share your exercise playlists? What songs get you going?
Wanda, I would think that you just gotta find the motivation inside of you, and match it up to music: is it a mood, a pace, a meaning? Positive, fast and uplifting? Sincere, regulated, and determined? Personally I like to listen to repetitive music with a forboding tone when I need to be motivated, because it reminds me to work hard to stay alive. Hope this helps
LT- totally helps. I like listening to sexy and/or feminist uptempo songs when I exercise- I just don't have enough on my ipod to keep things fresh. Looking for songs to add!
New Mike was the reformulation of Mike Merrill introduced in 2012 by The KmikeyM Company to replace the original incarnation of its flagship product (also called Mike). New Mike originally had no separate name of its own, but was simply known as "the new style of Michael" until February of 2012 when it was renamed Mike II. Eventually the term New Mike caught on because saying Mike II was confusing to people who kept hearing it as Mike too, and thought there was another Mike in the room.
KmikeyM's most senior executives commissioned a secret effort named "Project Hawaii" to test and perfect the new style for Mike himself. It took its name from a famous photo of Tom Selleck as Magnum P.I. wearing red shorts that had been used extensively in its advertising and hung on several executives' walls. The company's marketing department again went out into the field, this time armed with photoshopped images of the possible new style for tests, surveys, and focus groups.
The results of the tests were strong — the sleeker streamlined image overwhelmingly beat regular Mike. When asked if they would be friends with and drink a beer with New Mike most said yes, they would, although it would take some getting used to. A small minority, about 10-12%, felt angry and alienated at the very thought, saying that they might unfriend Mike on Facebook. Their presence in focus groups tended to skew results in a more negative direction as they exerted indirect peer pressure on other participants.
Management also considered, but quickly rejected, an idea to simply make a new version of Mike called Mike Jr. It was decided that a new variety of Mike in competition with the main variety could, if successful, also harm the share price.
Seems like music for running should be different than lifting heavy stuff? Maybe?
I usually only have the sounds of Brandon yelling at me when I work out. Maybe I could record that for you. It's pretty effective. He had a Boston accent.
I listen to RadioLab and This American Life podcasts. They help me focus on listening instead of looking at the clock and thinking about how much time is still left in the workout.
The pace of the music is definitely helpful for jogging. Really fast music tends to make me feel anxious, and stuff that is too slow makes me want to give up.
This is about the perfect pace for me
stuff with a solid kick drum seems to help me stay motivated too.
I think good dancing music and good jogging music have a lot in common probably.
I don't do lifting heavy stuff, but I imagine the best music for that is just loud and aggressive?
I've had the fitbit for about a week. It's pretty neat, but I'm not sure I would have gotten one without the discount I got through a get-healthy program at work. If the web site were better, it would be easier to recommend. But as it is, I think it's too expensive at full retail.
I'm starting to get a blister/callus from the weights. No more "Delicate hands Mike" over here I guess (I always hated that nickname anyway). I should find a nice hand moisturizer.

Yesterday I moved tree limbs while listening to one of David Harvey's lectures on DAS KAPITAL. (Chapter 15, pt. 1. "Yummy!)
You're getting a mix from me.
I feel pretty tired, but also pretty good.
All this working out better pay off. I plan on buying the shortest shorts they sell at Brooks Brothers. 5" inseam.
I'm super into classic rock for working out. Rolling Stone, Kinks, Clash, the more rocking Petty and Springsteen...
TWINSIES!

I've been using BreakTime to remind me to get up and get a glass of water every 30 mins. That's a lot of water!!
I went to the gym this morning and burned some calories. This chart proves it.
