Looking for a juicer

edited April 2012
I'd like try veggie/fruit juicing and am trawling through reviews on amazon and not really sure which direction to go.

I have a good amount of counter space, but don't want anything too complicated to clean out (if it takes me 2x as long to clean something as it does to use it... I worry it might demotivate me)

Anyhow, does anyone have any juicer suggestions/lessons?

Cheers,
Robby

  • I've been told this is the best juicer around:

I have a blender from the same company that I like.

I got that one refurb for under $200, works great. Not available anymore but there's a Cuisinart version for around $150 (refurb via Amazon sellers for ~$100): http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CJE-1000-1000-Watt-5-Speed-Extractor/dp/B0030EH7S6
  • clean up is a pain, but like many things, worth it!
  • Yeah i haven't met a juicer that doesn't have cleanup issues. You want to find one that breaks down easily so there is no weird scrubbing involved.
  • are you sure you want a juicer and that a blender won't do the trick? blenders can do amazing things!
  • I am using an older model Breville Juice Fountain now that I'm borrowing from a neighbor. I have been really impressed with how dry the juice poop is, which means it's really maximizing the juice extraction. Yes, cleanup takes a bit of care/time, but it's not even really gross because it's so dry. Sort of like cleaning up sawdust.
  • When I had a juicer I had a dedicated toothbrush that just lived on the counter with my normal scrubbie. You have to commit to taking the juicer apart and scrubbing--you really have to do it--but it actually doesn't take that much time. It's like unscrewing your Bialetti and scrubbing in there--not really a biggie.

I had a Juiceman Jr. and it was awesome
  • After reading the comments on a yahoo article about how nuts are a healthy food, I am thinking we should come up with another name for them. One can be very specific about the type of nut, but when about when you just need a general term for this food. What then.
  • Legume, gal!
  • nuts aren't legumes! Only peanuts, I think, are legumes, and not an actual nut.

I like where you're going with this, glowing green three-eyed smiley, but it's a nitrogen thing.

Does legume mean nut in French?
  • "Nuts aren't legumes!" makes me think of this:

  • CUTE!!!!!!!!
  • perusing wikipedia...
    what about "true nuts"
    Dehiscents
    hard-walled, edible kernel
    fagalents

    It's really complicated.

    It's like that old saying:

"Never legume. A legume makes a 'leg' out of 'u' and 'me'"

    Or is it:

"There is no 'I' in legume."
  • Alas, so many nuts aren't nuts.

    The peanut, a legume
    The cashew, a perverse apple-turd
The coconut, a meal in itself
  • Ok, I looked up cashew because I had never seen its raw form and now my mind is kind of boggled that enough of them are produced to fill the world's needs. I kind of don't understand how the world works in general, though (eg I am constantly amazed that so many people own houses).
  • I ate so many perverse apple turds today!
  • Some nuts are nuts some nuts are fruits some nuts are legumes some nuts are seeds sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don't
