Bachelor(ette) Foods

Let's agree that we are all very impressed by K. Michael's bachelor diet. We've seen the photos of the juice and the scrambles and the salads. I wish I was as classy in my eating habits when I dine alone, but alas I often find myself eating a quesadilla with spinach or spaghetti with spinach or macaroni and cheese with some spinach in there. See, the spinach makes the meals healthy. This weekend my Friend is skiing and I am eating all kinds of starchy foods with token leaves of green! What do you eat when you're all alone?

  • Side broc or green beans with black bean sauce. Salad of romaine, cottage cheese + tomatoes or fruits, protein, grains, really anything. Meal salad!

    I like "fancy ramen." Make the ramen noodles, discard liquid. Saute in a nonstick pan: noodles, 1/2 flavor packet, a couple of sliced green onions, some defrosted frozen peas, and an egg. Pretty good, really!

    Also: grilled cheese with chutney, or tuna melts.

    Though I mostly eat out unless I am eating with Sasha. Then she/we make nice stuff.
  • I love making fancy ramen versions. That's a good one.
  • Well I am very impressed by all of your foods. Sometimes I'm good and make simple, balanced meals when I eat alone- making too much is okay since I can just have it for lunch at work the next day. But so many times I think, "Oh I should chop up these veggies and roast them and make a tofu scramble on the side! Ugh- so much chopping. I'll just heat up a party pizza and throw some spinach on it."
  • I feel like cooking elaborately while beardy is gone is something I do to comfort myself. Like, I'm lonely and I'm tired of walking the dog by myself but tonight I'm gonna make a really fancy grilled cheese and eat it while watching Spartacus on Starz play
  • Kind of like Charlton Heston in Omega Man.
  • My standby: Annie's mac n' cheese (with some fresh dubliner cheese thrown in), frozen peas, maybe some greens if they're around, and a can of tuna fish.
  • Twice a week: Breakfast Burrito

    2 eggs
    Sharp Cheddar
    Blue Cheese
    Soyrizo
    Salsa Huichol

    I definitely ascribe to the homemade Ramen lifestyle. I like trying weird noodles from Fubonn. Throw some veggie fish balls in there, some gai lan, some hot chili oil.

    I like making cacio e pepe with fresh pasta from pasta works. It's fast, easy, unhealthy, and delicious. Perfect bachelor(ette) food.

    Lots of trader joes frozen food (veggie corn dogs, veggie potstickers) and spaghetti. When I want to get really fancy I make baked bean sandwiches and baked potatoes.
  • Damn, I never make breakfast burritos but every time I see the phrase "breakfast burrito" I think "Damn, why don't I ever make breakfast burritos??"

  • But this morning! I MADE A SMOOTHIE AND A JUICE!!!

    The smoothie is banana, yogurt, cranberries, spirulina, wheatgrass, tofu, almond butter, and almond milk.

    The juice is 1 grapefruit, 2 kiwis, 5 celery ribs, 1/2 bunch parsley, 1 tsp spirulina.

    I FEEL GREAT!

  • spirulina is so intense in color. The smoothie had a lot of bland colors to lighten things up.

    For lunch I had a Grilled Tuna Niçoise Salad from Nel Centro and it was great.
  • Foods eaten so far today:
    - 1 plain bagel (one half with peanut butter and one half with cream cheese)
    - Banana
    - Nature Valley granola bar (10g of protein)
    - Corn chowder from Whole Foods
    - Honeycrisp apple
    - 2 cups of drip coffee from the office coffeemaker (Stumptown house blend)
    - 3 pints of water
  • Borscht, turkey sandwich, carrot salad, one mini Ritter Sport yogurt chocolate bar.
  • Two handfuls of almonds, one cup of coconut flavored yogurt, a frozen Indian-style entree from Whole Foods and a tiny slice of pumpkin pie. Oh and one cup of coffee, made at home with Stumptown beans.

    I'm headed to a staff meeting- going to bring an apple so I'm less tempted to eat the mini chocolate bars our principal always puts out.
  • coffee, plain whole milk yogurt w/cereal + maple syrup, herbal iced tea, tiny cherry tart, lentil/squash/parsley salad, 2 slices of bread, another coffee.
  • Two mini Snickers and one mini Twix. And the apple. :/

    One smoothie, one bowl of rice noodles with peanut sauce and veggies, some sunchips, one protein shake (44g). About time for a snack.
  • I just had a snack attack. Made a sandwich of dave's killer, veganaise, tempeh, harvarti, tomato, and pickle. FEEL SO MUCH BETTER.

    Ha ha Willow, when I read about the apple I thought "well now she's just gonna eat the apple AND the chocolate" and then I got to your second post about it and I was right!!!

    The "trick yourself" snack NEVER WORKS, because any snack that ISN'T the one you brought is ALWAYS more tempting.

    My day ended even weaker than it began:
    shitty english muffin
    coffee
    no lunch
    got home, ate huge bowl of collard greens with nothing else
    ate piece of pizza
    drank stout beer
    went home, ate entire rice krispie treat

  • I got home and I was pretty sleepy. So I "took a nap" at like 7pm, thinking I might try to rally and go out to Holocene but instead just slept until 9am. BOOM. Who needs to eat when you can just dream about food?

    One day I realize I have a craving for snack foods... the orange kind.
    So I'm like, bad girl, have some celery.
    Then I remembered that if I deny myself something, I am sure to rebel disproportionately days later.
    So like I got a small snack pack and the fizzy yeasty drink I wanted to begin with. The alternative is that days later I would freak out on a family sized.

    I remembered that there is a canned beverage vending machine in the laundry room. This knowledge has triggered the production of unauthorized ice cream floats in the off-hours.

    but that sizzle pie really was good

    I need to take it up a notch, and by "up" I mean "less pizza"
