You guys - what's happening this weekend? My family-plans fell through and now I have nothing to look forward to. Plus, it's going to be rainy. If I don't take initiative quick, I'll probably lie around in my PJ's all weekend which is not what I want to happen. Ideas?

I'm teaching a class to teachers from 9-1 tomorrow and then going to the school auction at 5. Sunday I am doing PJs and mags and teevees and sweet foods.

I am in LA. Tomorrow morning we are hosting the first Kidical Mass (big ol family bike ride) in Santa Monica and we have 92 people signed up. Free pizza! Dress up green for earth day (early)! Come on down!

Oh, also I'm at the coast right now.
It's super stormy and I made a great fire in the fireplace. Frozen pizza was consumed.

There will probably be some kind of drinks/party tomorrow night, will give details when I know them.

I ended up taking a wonderful trip to historic Oregon City today! Received two historic-house tours from the most enthusiastic tour guides I've ever encountered, ate a delicious bagel sandwich at a coffee shop, rode the municipal elevator, tried on derby hats with feathers.

I'm on the island of Kauai in Hawaii and it's been pretty rainy but we've been eating lots of ahi poke and Sasha made margs and we saw some geckos/crazy spiders and tonight we're going to a minimal techno/house show at an Italian restaurant see

Anyone want to tag along to the Timbers game tonight? My family is bailing on me short notice and I got extra reserve seats, under cover and lower level, that probably won't sell on Craigslist/StubHub/etc. I'll trade them for a beer or some cart food at the game, or an essay about the experience to be posted on PortlandSportsman.

I went to papers all day and had such a great time and talked to all kinds of scholars and met people who have read my article which is the most bizarre/wonderful feeling. Then went out to dinner with everybody and talked to the most amazing beautiful old man about life and death and he told me stories about hanging out with Sun Ra. Then went out for drinks with young colleagues from hosting institution, deeper disciplinary gossip sesh and around midnight started really laying out my paper's arguments for their perusal, got some great reading suggestions. Got back to hotel to finally check in at 2:00 a.m., found I had been upgraded to jacuzzi room, started half-heartedly filling jacuzzi before realizing that was crazy and I had to work on my paper. Worked on paper til 3 then stumbled to bed, woke up at 6 and finished paper, put on pencil skirt, gave paper to what seemed like general approval, traded emails with everybody, then popped into the co-op for a kombucha, then drove home listening to Ween

I made miso tacos as part of the miso night of our dinner club. I also had too much of the miso cocktail and also wine and also sake and also beer and feel not super hot today.

YT, at the risk of being lumped into the category of "friends who defend you and tell you you're great even when it's illogical to do so" -- how exactly was your weekend activity NOT "doing it?" Seems pretty legit to me. Esp. the part where you worked on your paper rather than sinking into that jacuzzi? Sheesh.
