Hey! Somebody wrote to ask me for ADVICE!
I really enjoyed this one. I lived vicariously through that dude for a second. 26 and just starting out on this adventure of life! What a glorious time!
I’ve been doing a lot of card reading. I love my cards so much. It is so helpful to pull cards and ponder them and work to find ways of making them make sense in your life. I think they would be great tools for therapists–I mean, duh, Carl Jung loved them–are there therapists who use them? Basically that’s all you’re doing when you go to a tarot reader on Venice Beach or something. “HELP I WANT TO GET MARRIED!” and then through the cards you talk it out. What is preventing you from reaching your goals? What personality traits should you think about as you move forward? As you strive to create a meaningful narrative out of the cards, you slowly become aware of what you actually think about stuff.
We each drew a card for 2014. Something to think about as a general guiding principle or idea as we move through the new year. Gary drew THE FOOL. Could there be a better guiding card for a new year? Especially if you know Gary! He would benefit so much from injecting just a smidgen of the Fool into his life. Just go forth joyfully for once, embrace uncertainty, step off a cliff and see what happens! The Fool is the very first card in the deck; he’s the ultimate New Beginnings card. What a fresh, optimistic, fun card to stick in your mind as a guiding thought!
Oh, what card did I draw? Not much, just the TEN OF SWORDS
LOL. It’s not as bad as it seems, though (or is it). This card is about the worst being behind you, or maybe just living as though it is. I am a heavy worrier, I always “put the worst in front of me,” in my husband’s words. I am like, oh cool, I won the lottery! But I’ll probably get leukemia soon. Why live your life this way? The Ten of Swords is like, Jesus, get on with it. A new day is dawning. Maybe bad shit goes down but the sun comes up anyway, same as always. Accept it, and look toward the morning sunrise not worrying about future swords that might get stuck in you–you already have ten, and here you still are! OH WELL.
Which is actually helpful advice for me.
I don’t really have any resolutions. They are always the same and it’s boring. Plus I make resolutions all the time, year-round, and keep some and don’t keep others. Do more yoga, blah blah etc.
2014! Wild. Where’s my flying car

Dude that was a great job of rationalising what is prolly the SCARIEST CARD IN THE DECK. :)
I KNOW RIGHT
hey dude, I just saw a movie that I think you would really like. It’s called Die Wand (The Wall). It’s about this woman who goes on vacation at a cabin with her two friends, and when they head back to town, she finds herself trapped behind an invisible wall, all alone except for a dog. The concept is kind of like Under the Dome meets the Will Smith movie version of I Am Legend, but it’s a much more contemplative film. Anyway, it’s about apocalyptic solitude and dogs as companions, so I thought it would be right up your alley. It’s on Netflix if you want to check it out.
