Reggie Watts

Reggie Watts Transition

Every year when I blog for the TBA festival there is always at least one show that I admittedly do not really understand and this year I have to say it has been Reggie Watts Transition. However, the interesting thing is I completely enjoyed the performance. The hour-long show was totally entertaining and the performer along with his hilarious supporting cast had the audience laughing throughout the entire show. Transition took us on almost a multimedia mushroom trip and offered the audience a little bit of everything.
I knew once Reggie Watts walked on stage and performed a soliloquy that made absolutely no sense then stripped off his costume to his street clothes and begun to beat box, we were in for something good. For the next hour almost every multimedia dimension was used. Handheld cameras, projection screens, Myspace complaints, and a mock rock band were all covered in the show and every part was full of perfect comedic timing and hidden messages. Not only was Watts amazing in his ability to engage the crowd, but a I have to also give major props to the supporting cast who were both talented and entertaining.
Transition might have been hard for my inartistic brain to completely wrap around but it definitely was a unique experience that I along with the audience enjoyed. Looking out on the crowd and seeing a bunch of white retirees bob their head to Watt’s beats was awesome, and the show never once got slow or predictable. I must also mention the best part of the performance came when two of the actors reenacted a scene from the classic film Teen Wolf. I mean could it even get much cooler than that?
