I love the Por Que No house salad.
Also the one time @zin and I went to Gruener (downtown), both of our salad blew my mind.
I've had some killer ones at Lovely's Fifty Fifty too.
If I read a novel that's translated anyway, I like to read it in German or Spanish just because, I don't know, it's more fun. And it's translated anyway, so it's not like I'm missing out on the orignal.
But lest we let the semantic discussion distract us, I use that term to indicate a privileged male who has bad intentions, is not trustworthy, and has gotten away with outrageously bad behavior in the past through intimidation, bluster, and charisma…
You're saying Jefferson Smith isn't the dictionary definition of a douchebag? I beg to differ. I can only think of a handful of times I've called someone that in my life, but here, I use it because it's exactly what I mean.
You're voting for a lady puncher who violated the resulting no-contact order and lied about the details of the incident? Not to mention his six drivers' license suspensions and seven speeding tickets (including one at 52 MPH in a 35 MPH zone - as in…
Pressure canner and water bath canner, yours to borrow with full canning accoutrements (jar lifter etc.)! Indian iddli molds and spaetzle press! A folding bike (the right size for a car trunk, but not so good for flying)! Probably other bike stuff i…
So, late to comment, but I confess that the spices some of you are proposing as 'basics' are not ones I consider key at all. But that doesn't really matter, because my #1 tip is to buy small amounts in bulk while you try things out. Otherwise, it's …
I am trying to help an acquaintance set up a very basic liquor cabinet and learn to make some key drinks. Here's what I'm thinking of recommending:
Gin
Bourbon
Dry vermouth
Sweet vermouth
Angostura bitters
Rose's lime juice
Maybe creme de cassis?
O…
I made up a drink, y'all, and I need your help naming it. It is bourbon with a dash of elderflower syrup and orange bitters. It reminds me that fall is coming. Any ideas?
Rimsy, it's sweet you think we're good parents, but Calvin's pretty easy to parent, as long as you have a high tolerance for reading books and answering questions (which I do). I've met kids who would try my patience daily and then some. I really ad…
Yesterday's beverage highlight: shandy on the Jantzen Beach Red Lion patio, overlooking the Columbia, after a hot bike ride in Vancouver. We didn't figure they could make us an off-menu beverage, so we ordered a beer and a lemonade and mixed our own.
I put up some peaches the other night and was left with some nice nectar/juice at the end. Mixed it with some dry vermouth (Gallo is my favorite; hate Martini and Rossi).
Fake bellini action over here - I made a (mindblowingly excellent) nectarine sorbet, and so I rinsed out the pitcher that had held the base with dry white wine. Summery deliciousness.
We got a watermelon that ended up being kind of boring. So, I blenderized it with some lemon juice, sugar, and water, and strained it. Dude, it ended up being SO GOOD!!! Especially over ice with some rum.
Yeah, Velo Cult is teh awesomez! They moved their whole shop and staff from San Diego because they wanted to be in a place with robust bike culture. They used to do this rad thing where they refinished classic mixtes and resold them - including repa…
Doh! Sorry, Flossy, didn't think to mention it. I've actually made the same mistake myself, and I've been going there for 15 years.
Two things you should know about shopping at Sellwood:
1. Super high turnover, especially in the summer. That means …
