Tre arrow

edited January 2012
Hey there. Do you guys know this dude? Know of him?
Just this afternoon I walked to Belmont Station from my house and saw a lot of commotion out on Stark... firetrucks, police, blocking the street, etc.... look up into this 80-90 foot tree and there's a guy flailing his arms screaming out 360 degrees: "Portland, are you willing to love and to respect our earth mother?"

Lots of people gathered around... talking...remembering him from the year 2000...

Eventually, about 5:30 the cops and firemen left the sight... people started to disperse... but I stuck around. He came down to talk to the few news crews that had showed up... thanked the sweet Quakers for hosting such a great tree on their property... he had the crowd eventually chanting his decree.

Things died down... people left... he would be leaving too with his friends (barefoot and by bike) to celebrate his birthday. apparently at midnight is his birthday.

Happy Full Moon yall.

  • Pretty cool. I shook his hand. and told him happy birthday.

I was screaming at him from down below on my porch, too.
  • Whoa! I really love Tre Arrow, and yet I had been under the impression that he was on the FBI's most wanted list and had fled the country and/or was in some horrible secret torture prison somewhere. Thus your post has made me very happy!!!!!!!

  • He was!!!!!!

Just a few hours ago he was in my backyard though!!!!!!

Some of his friends were huddled next to me speaking softly -- "this is going to be OK, he'll be OK, he's staying with me tonight, we'll give him round the clock support... he hasn't been sleeping, etc.."

No eating for so long. Give the guy raw foods already. Raw food should be available in prison. So should condoms. UGH
  • also, in this tree he had no climbing gear on. he was barefoot, too. climed down SO fast
  • Sounds bi polar, maybe?
I thought he was in jail in Canada or something!
  • When Andy relayed your story to me earlier, she didn't say it was Tre Arrow, but I knew it was anyways.
  • You guys! I was on my way to work today and I saw Tre by my house again. He was walking down the sidewalk with a frown (understandably because it was 35 degrees) and carrying multiple duffle bags and a black wooden spoon??

He appeared lost in his thoughts when I told him "Good morning!" He was startled, looked up and made eye contact and said "Hello, thank you."

I feel bad for this dude kind of. But also I don't. He's doing what he wants to be doing. I hope his buddies didn't kick him to the curb. I hope he's just on his way to a taller tree!

ARE YOU WILLING TO LOVE AND RESPECT OUR EARTH MOTHER?!

He's always seemed a bit unstable to me. (but I've never met him.)
  • someone do an interview
  • I remember years ago when the FBI first was after him and he was on the lam, there was a huge WW (I think) story on him, and I always remember this quote from his dad, about how most of us realize shit is deeply fucked, but we find ways to kind of pretend it's not, or look the other way, so that we can go on with our lives--having jobs, having babies, going to a party--and that his son just can't do that and has never been able to do that. He described him as a child, painstakingly saving individual ants from the kitchen floor and bringing them back outside, so dutifully.

I really like how it makes it about how WE ALL KNOW Tre Arrow is TOTALLY RIGHT, yet his behavior also lets us "know" that he is "crazy" or socially dysfunctional or bipolar or whatever....which he is, but it's such a great example of the crazy man actually being the only sane man. Like his craziness serves to highlight how weird and fucked up our society is. Just like Brave New World!

  • When he was up in the tree 80 feet high I thought "Wow, this is some kooky activist!"

When I saw him up close and shook his hand and smiled at him I thought "he's not that crazy." What he was saying is totally true. Hearing him give advice to 3 punks with mohawks and spikey belts explaining to them they do not have to be wearing rubber boots and attending school. They could even just take their boots off for 1-2 hours a day and stand on the Earth.

He's not asking people to run around naked and chant love praises to the Earth, he's just asking people to acknowledge it's OUR EARTH and it's the only one.

I like this guy! I want to go to a potluck with him.

Here's the interview from Fox 12 that happened the minute he shimmied down from the tree: http://www.kptv.com/story/16473669/a-convicted-eco-terrorist-has-re-emerged-in-a-southeast-portland

Here's a fat cat you can adopt: http://www.kptv.com/story/16499274/28-pound-cat-up-for-adoption-at-portland-shelter
  • And now he's in fourth place in the race for Portland mayor, with 7% of the vote!

  • KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD
  • I have got to say I am not a fan of this dude. But maybe there are political autistics among us who see things we do not, and lack the social limits we share in speaking about it. Look at Temple Grandin. She sees things in farm animal perceptions I would never see. For Arrow's causes you might look up the film If A Tree Falls: A Story From The Earth Liberation Front nominated for best documentary feature in the 2012 Academy Awards. I thought it strange, exotic and weird an ex knew some peeps from her school being investigated for that stuff. But we are on the forefront of this on the left coast and have to own it.
  • Yes!! I love the comparison to Grandin.

I think this world could take a cue from the Spectrum.
