NYE

edited December 2011
What is everyone doing?

With two exceptions I have generally had really boring and/or actively awful NYEs (one of the exceptions was that time Cabel rented that hotel room, remember that? That shit was EIGHT YEARS AGO, time flies). This year I may just stay in playing Zelda but am not sure.

What crazy amazing party time plans do you have to celebrate the ushering-in of this wonderful election year?

  • I am DJing the Doug Fir, they tent the patio off the bar and it's FREE and a fun if weird time. I just got vinyl copies of Ween's Chocolate & Cheese (life goal FULFILLED) and best of Notorious B.I.G. so it should be enjoyable...
  • (so many good shows this NYE! Purple & Green at Dig A Pony! Fruit Bats & Weinland downstairs at Doug Fir! Anjali + The Incredible Kid at Bossanova, etc!)
  • Been playing so much Zelda. It takes so long to get through. I don't know how people play video games all year. For me it's usually just around Christmas.

Is the story in the new Zelda as good as all the reviews say?

I hear there is something going on at Mississippi studios. I'm probably just going to hop around a bit for NYE.
  • I am playing mid-period Zelda (Twilight Princess), so cannot speak to the newest Zelda. But Twilight Princess is so good!!!

It really does take so long. It's a real journey you have to work through, so many subplots and shit. I get stressed out that I'm missing things because there are so many options and ways it can go. Right now I'm at the part where the whole village is trapped in ice and I feel like I missed something important earlier. Also HEART CONTAINERS: WHERE ARE THEY ALL??

In Twilight Princess you are sometimes a wolf!!! And you have special senses that allow you to follow scents and see spirits!

  • I think Twilight Princess was better than this new one (Skyward Sword). Still enjoying it.

I have been playing a lot of Twilight Princess too. I'm in the sky city thing right now. I got kinda frustrated because of all the wind and disappearing floor stuff. Those levels where I have to figure things out quickly otherwise I fall to my death (or minimal heart loss) are so nerve racking! Agreed: Where are all the damn heart containers? I love the twilight/wolf/everything gold and black/spirit scent stuff. The darker they go in those games the better.

It's crazy how many times I have to use internet cheats. I spent 3 real-time days (not full days, but still) trying to figure out this one dungeon and finally had to google it and it was some super elaborate thing I never would have thought of. Then last night I had to google how to get off the huge bridge where the monster sets it on fire--and the answer was "fling yourself off the bridge"!!!! WHO WOULD EVER THINK TO DO THAT?

also re: heart containers--it's stressful because you know they're everywhere, but you're missing them. I know this because the other day I fell accidentally into a pool and one was down there

    NERD SQUABBLE ALERT:
    YT,
Can we refer to Twilight Princess as a late period Zelda game?
There have been 8 Zelda games for home Nintendo consoles, and Twilight Princess is the 7th and up until a month ago it was the most recent version of Zelda for a home console.
  • REALLY?
I was thinking it was late 90's era or something!
    Whoa I am confused

It is fine with me if we (meaning I) now refr to it as a late period Zelda.

I am stoked to be on the cutting edge of Zelda technology after assuming I was way behind for so long
  • Twilight Princess was actually released for both GameCube and Wii (late November 06) at the same time.
It came out right when the Wii came out and was the last official Nintendo game released for the GameCube.
The Wii wasn't really a graphics upgrade from the GameCube, more about the new controls (WiiMote) so the games looked very similar on the two consoles..

Fun fact about Twilight Princess: Link is traditionally left-handed, but on the Wii, they flipped the game to its mirror image so the sword is in his right hand. Still a lefty on the gamecube version, though.
  • whoa! never even noticed him being a lefty!

This is interesting, Stevie. I think maybe I thought it was old simply because it's for gamecube, which I knew was an obsolete system? But I didn't realize it was the most recent Zelda...

So they flipped him to a righty for Wii because most people are righties, and you play Wii by swinging your own arm around or whatever? I've never seen a Wii.

    YOU GUYS HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • Did it happen? Did I sleep through it?
  • It didn't happen yet!
    It's happening RIGHT NOW
    THE COUNT DOWN BEGINS
  • HAPPY NEW YEAAAR

I might go to the holocene bar? but it's going to be real packed :/

maybe to that P&G hot show?

    WHERE THAT PARTY AT

  • Having a real tough time finding a theater that's showing the film New Year's Eve at midnight.
    This doesn't make sense!

hmm, yeah that's apparently not here yet.
  • I don't even bother playing Zelda with my own brain. I use the cheat walkthroughs on the Internet every time. It's still fun and it still takes like 48 hours of playing to get through it, which is ENOUGH for me.

Andy is my navigator, reading the walkthrough off the iPad.

Rob Walmart will probably be in the general Holocene/Recess/YU area tonight drinking and making noise. 70% chance that's what I'm doing.

Rob sounds like a good NYE ticket. I'll bring my rave stick (acquired at a party thrown by Kanye West's head of security in las vegas).
  • I just want to find out what happens to Kutcher and that girl from Glee while they are trapped in the elevator!

and I think that movie will hit harder if its watched during the ball drop.
  • Moonchild deep house party 2nd & hawthorne 2am start. ;)
  • The only reason I'm not seeing that movie is because it's not ALL Kutcher. Get those other actors OUTTA HERE.

    I mean...

    WHY WASN'T IIIIIIIIII CONSULTED?
  • Happy New Year! Hullo 2012!
  • I was asleep by 11:00!!!!

    CLASSIC
  • Me, too, YT. Matt apparently came in to wish me a happy new years at midnight, but my sleepy self ignored him.
