hi folks i need some assistance with my future of books. since reddit isn't actually printed out for people going places with little/no internet, im gonna need some recommendations for hi/low brow literature in the realm of: batman/james bond/blade runner*/kavalier&clay/scifi/fantasy/spy/awesome/life changing/better than early sonic youth at 18/better than pink flamingoes at 15 *DADOES
i couldnt STAND valis. i read like 40 pages and then promptly tossed it on the fire for warmth. edit: that didnt sound too snarky. i didnt actually burn it, i loaned it to a friend.
Did you try "The Divine Invasion?" It is part of the "trilogy" and is more of a classic fictive nocel than autobiography.
I like it because it's cool to see PKD take himself seriously for once, if that makes sense. Kind of like Stephen King and The Gunslinger. It's like, you see how he feels it is the most important story he has to tell, and he rises above his station to relay this personal experience.
I'm working my way through "Game of Thrones" right now. I'm really bad at huge books, but I'm going to do it. ZA has apparently read most of the series. I enjoyed the TV show and I am enjoying the book. I'm not usually into this type of thing. I do not like Lord of the Rings at all.
Oh my god. My mater sent me the whole d**ned kit for my birthday last month. I am halfway into the second book, being previously vaguely aware of the franchise as something I saw people reading on the bus. I have been slightly embarassed to read it in public, but to its adult Harry Potter-ness. But, by the end of the first book I was won over.
Who are your favorite characters? Mine are Tyrion, Arya, and the Hound. And Danaerys
plz no spoilers i just bought G.O.T and am kind of excited but i have to finish this super boring book before i start that one. edit:also, i am a super dork but i draw the line at playing magic/D&D/WoW. gimme some zelda, gimme some venture brothers, see you in a few months.
when i found sonic youth it completely changed my life. i know that sounds weird and wild and "why werent you listening to them when you were listening to nirvana! when i was a greasy skinned 13 year old" i know i know. that moment i heard experimental jet set changed my life. prior to that i saw john waters' pink flamingoes. again, life changing. i guess i've been chasing the dragon since
They are so good! All kinds of feminists are up in arms about it and I have many thoughts about how very stupid their critiques are! I think it is such an amazing series and a really brutal critique of patriarchy and feudalism, plus what a cool romp, with dragons! No spoilers I promise! But keep on going, it gets so epic, you are not gonna believe the shit currently going on with Daenerys and Tyrion and Arya, if those are your fave dudes.
I love them too, also The Hound. Also a couple characters that it would be spoilering for me to tell you I have come to love.
Plus luxurious sable cloaks and shimmering samite and the stamp of steel-clad boots!
Wait'll you meet Asha Greyjoy, she's such a badass. The squids are fondest of anybody of separating a man's head from his shoulders. THEY DROWN THEMSELVES FOR FUN, spoiler alert
look, i am reading "the spy who loved me" right now and since i am reading all the james bond books in chronological order and completely, i cannot put it down, even though james isnt even in the book by chapter 8 (im mad). this is the most boringist boring crap book i have ever read. feminists, please, read this book, tell me all that is wrong with her thinking. ugh. you are making me super jealous with your stories of battle axes and splitting skulls and innuendos with rusty swords and i am so ready for that book. i'll probably read the first, wait 3-6 mos, read another, rather than burn through them all at once.
last night my bf pretended to thunk at me with a hammer, and since I have been reading GoT (actually called A Song of Ice and Fire), I rapidly disarmed him and placed the hammer at my hip (so as not to be disemboweled in turn by thon nail-claw).
But RCH yon war hammer is much too grand for thy petite biceps to wield, surely you needeth a subtle blade or child-sized dirk for ripping the guts from a man like Arya's needle. "Stick them with the pointy end"
just kidding, e.g. Asha Greyjoy wields the shit out of a battle axe and beheads many a full grown man, while also getting male admirers up the wazoo and refusing to take nary a husband til she attains her rightful place atop the Seastone Chair, Lord Queen of the Iron Islands and Chief Kraken of the Ironlanders
OH ASHA!!!!!! Her plotline ended on such a cliffhanger in book 5, WHYEEEEEEEE
@ZombieApocalypse it's "the spy who loved me" and it's written from the perspective of this love forlorn "modern" woman, travels to the US via CAN and buys a Vespa for a roadtrip. After a fateful stop at a motel/resty she takes a job and ends mixed up in a (not yet know) gangster plot. then ol JB shows up.
Just finished vacation/GoT, will post an urho relevant pic as soon as I have actual internet. Currently debating whether or not to purchase the continuing tome, as I have taken the day off
Still some dead lords in there, though, am i right??
