Hello there fellow readers:

I have a question/issue to discuss! I recently moved into a new home where there were several unlocked internets to share with. "Linksys, Mr Bear's Castle, etc." All of these nice people had password free connections for me to bum from. As of 2 days ago, when I go to log on... I'm seeing a COMCAST XFINITY splash page asking me to enter my account number to proceed.

Am I at a hotel? Did Comcast find out about me and my dirty secret? Is there a way to bypass this page and go back to bumming? What's a girl to do? Anyone else getting "found out?"

    Tell your neighbors you got a coupon in the mail for free service, and that you need their account number and password to activate it.

    Leeching off someone's Comcast is kinda ruder than it was in the past because Comcast has monthly limits now. Just sayin.

    I think that screen comes up if the person's Comcast/Xfinity account has been shut down. Maybe they didn't pay their bill.

    There is a monthly bandwidth limit now. It's pretty big 250 gigs per month, but still pretty stupid/jerky/backwards.

    ISPs suck universally. In Portland, your options are Comcast (cable), Qwest (DSL), and Clear (WiMax). They are all pretty shitty. You're going to get the fastest connection with Comcast, though.

    Capt BoatShoes is correct. Just wait for the owner of the account to deal with it and use another AP instead.

    I've never had to get my own wireless and am moving into a place where I will have to get my own wireless and I don't know how to deal with getting my own wireless!
