  • imagine being an MRA
  • I've tried to imagine, just to bring some peace to my mind (empathy). I can see the political entry points for some, when it comes to maybe custody rights? But it's just so wrong headed and stupid. If you want equality, just be a feminist! My buddy's one night stand decided she was keeping their baby, despite his wishes, and that was/is a big fear of mine, since I don't want kids, but you, know... use birth control* and have convos about kids! (He is now happy about the kid and they are co-raising despite not being together).

Non-politically, there is probably cross-over with those video game douches that email rape/death threats to female video game journalists - some kind of fear about the loss of a safe space to objectify ladies? I don't know too much about it. But maybe they have a reason to be afraid? In 20 years will there be no more Lara Crofts? I doubt it. But I should probably shut my mouth bc I know nothing about video games or LC.

Also - I have finally become comfy enough with UHX to post 6th grade reading level valley boi posts. I am so (not) proud of myself.

  • Yeah, it's hard to get any access into their subjectivity because that kind of un-reflected-upon fear of loss of power is just so foreign to me. It's the same as these insane people on twitter ranting about affirmative action and how there's no such thing as racism anymore. They are psychologically troubled people.

I would say that honestly, most men I meet/know (present company excluded) have fucked up thoughts about women that they are totally unaware are fucked up, but the MRAs take it so much further, into actually considering hatred of women a valid political movement. It's pretty incredible.

I tend to write them off as men who are just mad that girls won't date them but this can't describe all of them.

Your point about birth control is so right on! If you don't use birth control and somebody gets pregnant, well, I don't know, fuck you dude! Tough shit!

I have heard from so many men in my life that this is a common fear--that a girl will "trick" you into getting her pregnant. Is this even a thing?? Like, how many times has this actually happened on earth? Pretty sure using condoms could like 99% alleviate this fear, bro!

I love that this is men's biggest fear about women, while women's biggest fear about men is that they will, you know, MURDER US
  • I think it does actually happen. I do know one particular lady in Portland who decided she wanted to have a baby, and promptly got pregnant by a guy she went on two dates with. I don't believe he is involved in the raising of the child, but I am not sure as I am more of an acquaintance of this person than a friend, bc she is a little crazy. That said - dude should have used protection / had discussions, etc... it takes two to get pregnant (the old fashioned way). I don't think it is common at all though, and as you say, wear a condom, bro!

Living in Portland and hardly ever hanging out around random guys makes it feel so weird when I do find myself suddenly around men who still think really ignorant stuff.
  • Culture is brutal

Perhaps this is relevant to the recent thread drift...My Google News is trying to convince me that I need a MMFR feed by proposing articles like this. No, Google News, I'm closing my eyes. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/2-People-Fell-Love-Mad-Max-Set-Later-Got-Married-71989.html

Finally saw it. It wasn't until about 20 minutes from the end that I realized the reformed war boy was played by the dude from Skins. He did a really good job of seeming like insignificant cannon fodder and then becoming a real character. ACTING!

Bulworth is essentially Bob Odenkirk rapping in that one Mr Show sketch for the whole movie. YouTube
  • Hey doodz, if you're in Portland, you can see the Black & Chrome edition (b&w) at Fox Tower. We saw it over the weekend and it was rad.
