Allergies

edited July 2014
Who is the hippy magic expert? I'm allergic and/or have horrible reactions to almost all allergy meds. If you know of any good remedies I will totally try anything at this point if it is not totally ridiculous.

So far I have tried:
Nettle Teas (works ok)
Saline spray (Seems to sorta make things worse)
Air Purifier (works great if I never have to leave my apartment)

I have heard:
Local honey (This seems bogus)
Acupuncture

Anything else?

Me and my grossed out coworkers thank you in advance.

  • I've always heard local honey too. Doesn't seem bogus to me.
  • I've heard that if you suck a bee's dick, you become immune to all pollen.

It's really difficult though because they're so small.
  • Freeze-Dried Nettles! I got on these two years ago and have been pretty immune from plant-based allergies since - or at least.. I can go outside in the Spring, Summer and Fall. You are supposed to start them before Allergy season, but that hasn't mattered for me. You can get them at Whole Foods for sure, but probably New Seasons and maybe even Fred Meyers.

... But I've also heard good things about Apian Fellatio.

The internet research I have done points to local honey being bogus. The way it supposedly works is similar to what they try to do with allergen shots but the dose you get from local honey is insignificantly small. There have also been a few studies that point to it being bogus but maybe there wasn't enough bee cum in their honey.

I'll still probably go buy some local honey and suck some bee dick just to see. Will report back on results.

I tried acupuncture at this little community acupuncture place near Powell and 13th. Weird experience but worked pretty well. I'm going to hold off on funny beesiness for now.
  • The only thing that has ever worked for my truly allergy-handicapped old man is Quercetin. I don't know what it is, it's some herb. It usually comes as a supplement that also includes nettle. It doesn't work as well as Claritin, but it definitely takes the edge off, AND has no side effects like actual drugs do. Give it a shot. Get it anywhere--new seasons, whatever.
  • What side effects do you guys get from allergy meds? I don't think I've had any. Maybe I'm lucky? I just take generic non-drowsy stuff from Walgreens or whatever, seems to help a BUNCH.
  • allergy pills make me super light-headed and amped up, like mild speed
  • Zyrtec especially, and most over the counter stuff, gives me bad stomach stuff and makes it super hard for me to concentrate. Flonase worked great for me for about a year and then decided to turn on me and gave me a crazy panic attack, 100 degree fever for a couple of days, and these wild sweats for a week when I stopped taking it. I guess that is a fairly common thing to happen which was a frustrating thing for this doctor to tell me a year after telling me that I could take it as my everyday allergy medication.

Tons of probiotics, nettle tea, and acupuncture seem to have worked for me, but I will look for that stuff YT. Acupuncture made me feel like a million bucks in general.
  • i love acupuncture. i have heard great things about acupuncture and allergies
