What's Next, Summer 2014?

edited July 2014
Now that July 4th has come and gone, what's next on the agenda for the summer?

A couple suggestions:
Anacortes Unknown (July 18th-20th): http://www.anacortesunknown.com
Washington just legalized it: http://blogs.columbian.com/cannabis-chronicles
The beach
The mountains
The lake
The river

  • Speaking of the river, anybody want to do the Washougal on Saturday? Maybe get some legal weed on the way? Breakfast first, then head north? Earlyish, so we get a good spot?
  • I'm def hitting Battleground Lake this weekend. Gotta use my parking pass before it expires in August.
  • I would swim and I bet my old man would too. We'd need to be driven though.

  • I floated the Clackamas on the 4th, it was great! I'll be in California this weekend, but after that it's more floating!
  • How do you go about that? Is there a service or you need two cars?
  • @Marc_Zuckerburg - you need two cars (or you can try hitchhiking). I have my car and two summer fun boxes in the back at all times which contain my rafts, pumps, and tubes. I have a number of floating friends that provide the 2nd car. I've also hitchhiked before, but it's nicer if you don't have to.
  • Wow, what a sad image accompanying this Oregonian article I read about floating on the Clackamas:

  • @Marc_Zuckerburg Yeah - litterers are the worst. I always try to pick up litter while I'm there. The police won't actually let people bring beer onto the river - they search coolers and fine people. You have to pull a sneaky little trick to get drinks on the river. But it is definitely possible to leave no footprint while floating - I do it every time.

Be careful out there- just heard there's been something like 8 drownings since summer weather started. One at 3 pools. Be safe!!!!! You all have such wonderful human bodies and minds.

  • @the_owls I would need a ride too ;(
  • Seems like most of the drownings I've heard about (incl 3 pools) are teen boys jumping into rapids. Don't do that and you'll be ok.
  • Matt got soooooo mad at me last weekend when I crossed over a log that was too close to a cliff. It's a good thing he wasn't around during my teen years up at Opal Creek. Teens are dumb.

  • everybody just image
  • I've been floating the rivers for years and it's super safe if you are a mature and/or smart person. Also - in addition to floats, I take a raft, which means I have to clip life preservers to the side, so I could always throw those if needed. Just don't jump off stuff - like ever. I think everyone here would be fine. If anyone wants in, text me at 971.222.9573. I *think* I'm taking Friday off.
  • "Just don't jump off stuff - like ever."

    100% against this advice.

  • Just at the Clackamas I mean - people break their necks on those swings.
