Last night there was some snow in deep North Portland but it disappeared once I got South of Fremont. This morning there was zero snow on the ground at MLK + Stark, but a light dusting on the ground Sandy beginning northeast of 11th....MICRO CLIMATES! I think the change in elevation on Sandy is approx 5-10 feet.
They keep talking about snow up here but we haven't seen any yet. WHY? We are North of you guys and it was cold enough, we just didn't have any clouds in the sky. STILL WHY?
When it snows I like to put on my awesome snow clothes and go and bug people about it. All social niceties go out the window, I drop by unannounced looking for people to come play in it.
It reminds me of the morning Alex, Jeremy, Clarity and Rachel dropped by our hut with sleds. That was ten years ago!
I almost fell down TWICE and normally I have the sure-steppin' foot of a graceful mountain sheep or deer
SLIPPERY
old men on the bus gossiping about how this bus driver is always late. "How long would YOU last at YOUR job if you were always 20 mins late?" Answer: probably pretty long
I totally pulled a "Home Alone" worthy slip-and-bumpy-slide down the stairs of my front porch this morning! I could almost hear my teeth bumping together as my butt hit stair after stair. It was crazy! I was thinking to myself during the fall: "What can I do to stop this? Nothing, I guess. I'm just gonna keep bumping down these stairs."
Related to falling on butt: last night I was thinking that probably by the time we are old they will have invented a way to reinforce our hips? Because it seems like old folks these days break their hip and then it just leads right to death. Seems like if we could prevent the hip breakage, we could grab a few extra years.
Lord knows this planet needs as many of us hanging on as possible!
“The 30-day mortality rate after hip fracture is about 9 percent. It rises to 17 percent if the patient already has an acute medical problem. If a patient has heart failure while being treated for a hip fracture, the 30-day mortality increases to 65 percent. And if a patient has pneumonia after a hip fracture, the 30-day mortality increases to 43 percent.”
Ever since the cold snap snapped NoPo has been snowy and icy in the early mornings but West Linn has been dry as a bone. Today it reversed- an ice storm hit WL and school was delayed!! I spent my extra hours sleeping.
