Last night in my dream.... I saw bunnies chasing butterflies!!!!!

Comments

  • I had a really philosophical, symbolically rich talk with an ex-boyfriend.
  • I dream a lot about my ex boyfriend who died two years after we broke up. For years after he died I dreamed him as an angel or a ghost who would come to me and bless me or curse me, surrounded in a weird glow, sometimes on rollerblades (which he himself would have pronounced "gay as hell"). Lately I've been dreaming he just shows up and I tell him I thought he was dead for sixteen years and he just says "nope" and offers no other explanation

I would like to know what this figure represents to my subconscious
  • A friend of mine died right after High School and he still visits my dreams. He sometimes stands at the foot of my bed and does slowed down silent gestures like the giant in Twin Peaks. He tells me that ending his life was a terrible idea. I have another friend who dreams of him. I think it is common for the dead to visit your dreams.
My friend was the son of Polish immigrants and when I was in Poland I had a very vivid dream of seeing him at a bar. He was ten years older, but still looked great and I bursted into tears when I realized he was still alive. I tried to tell him how amazing of a person he was and to be careful and take good care of himself. In the dream he had no idea what I was talking about and was distant.

I have thought this through over and over and my theory is that when you haven't seen someone for a long time (six months, many years) and they die you have no closure. It's like falling out of touch with somebody but permanent. They don't exist anymore. Had I been living in the same city as my school friends when this happened it would have hit me harder and not been so trippy. It would have felt more like real life.

I have dreams about sea animals (turtles, sea urchins) and other stuff. I like to look up dream meanings in the morning, trying to figure out what my subconscious is trying to communicate. YT, there are many dream dictionaries online AND you live in the town where Powell's is so you can have a look at actual dream dictionaries there! Next time I am in your town I am getting one.

I am getting weirdly esoteric with age.

  • I think your take on dreaming of the dead is spot-on.
I also have the dream where I am crying and he is distant/doesn't know what I'm talking about.

I think you're so right about having no closure. Not going through it with everyone, going to the funeral, etc. It makes it seem like, what if it actually didn't happen? In my dreams where he shows up and is not dead, it feels so reasonable, like how WOULD I know for sure he was dead? I never saw his body or talked to his mom or anything. For all I know it is a weird joke mutual friends played on me

I only have one recurring dream and it's about being at my grandparents' amazing old house in the woods with a really long driveway. I am going to get the mail and from deep inside the woods someone begins beckoning me in.

And it is always THIS GUY.

Get out of my dreams (and into my car) THE COUNT.
  • My dead grandparents have visited me several times since they passed. One time I had a really satisfying hug with my grandmother.
  • I sometimes dream about a friend who died when I was a tween. In the dreams, he appears to me as an adult. I often see him doing "grown-up things" like graduating college or getting married. I always contact a classmate when I wake up and, without fail, she ALWAYS has a dream about him the same night. SO STRANGE!!!

  • some people die along "the way"
  • Oh man, you guys. My dream last night. So huge. But the one part I cannot let go of was the part happening this morning, right before I woke up: I was riding a horse through the countryside. I can tell you everything about the path we were on - the curves in the landscape, the way I had to nudge him to get him to go just right through that underhanging thing... I could feel the saddle banging against me and the wind. I was carrying a big blanket in one arm, which made things a little awkward and I'm not sure why I was doing that. Also, I was riding to go fetch my old dog, Sadie, because there was some concern that she was a male/female hybrid type thing, and that her disease or mutation or whatever could spread to other dogs.

BUT THE HORSE-RIDING! Why did I have to wake up?
  • I believe that dreams are real and that you were astral projecting to another dimension, most easily traced by following divergent paths of your higher-than-3-d self. Kind of weird to know that in other nearby universes, virii could cause this change to the reproductive system. Everyone, stay vigilant and try not to bring anything dangerous back with you when you are astral projecting.

I have three different types of dreams over and over.
I wanted to elaborate, but they are so deeply personal. Having already shared the dead friend dream I almost feel like it would be too much to share the other ones, too.
Some dreams have such clear obvious meanings when put in the context of what you are going through.
I agree with you LT that dreams are real. It's like you have your life-life and then your dream-life, which is a third of your existence. And you sort of don't have that much control over either.
I am still on the look out for a good dream dictionary.
And then I got a couple books about Ley Lines and Earth Grids.
My dad told me about those and their connections to dreams.
As I get older I am getting more curious about his Wiccan beliefs.
  • When I was growing up, my best friend and her mother were low-key wiccans... it didn't occur to me until later on how I had incorporated a lot of that knowledge into my life as just plain common sense.

I had a very disturbing dream last week that just left me reeling with the feeling. It haunted me and it was so horrible I felt guilty.... then, once I tackled it with some dream dictionaries, it made total sense. Once I understood the simple psychological stuff at play it took away its power of fear over me. It's amazing how common our dreams are. You wouldn't think that a dream dictionary could exist, because we all process the world differently. But after all, there are some really common translations happening as we experience things and then process them within our dreams. The dream dictionary will offer seemingly strange translations, i.e. what an object truly represents, but when I factor them into the whole puzzle of the dream, the translation is generally very accurate.
  • Yesterday I got an "aura photograph" at a yoga/tai chi studio. It's so funny how, even though a lot of new age concepts are common sense to me, I am always on guard with intense new age people... like they might be flaky, even though their science is sound.
  • Right before I woke up I had a great idea for a place where you could take all the stuff you want to pack for a trip and they would pack it into an appropriately sized rental suitcase for you.
  • I've been getting acupuncture and having the most insane lucid/waking/trippy dream sessions while under the pins. It just sets me right off to nod through shifting zooming visualizations.
  • I think it's not fair that the term "new age" is taken by something so grounded in ancient ways.

I dream of a true New Age where we worship computers.
  • Too much work. There should be apps that worship for us.
  • Worshiping computers is way out there IMO.

But here is the clue: if babes grow up 0-.5 engaged with computers, all bets are off. What will they dream??
  • i want computers to worship me
  • Computers are the manifestations of the divine. My worship of them is in place of that which is yet to be revealed.
  • God is a distributed peer-to-peer network.

    Worshapps.
  • Does anyone else have dreams where you are thrift store shopping and finding the greatest clothes of all time? Guessing it is just a simple sublimated desires type of manifestation...

In my dream I found a T Shirt for the famed INXS AND PRINCE ON TOUR tour. Remember how awesome that was???
  • Ugh! I just had my first (that I can remember) zombie dream. It was so scary you guys!! So much creeping around apartment complexes in the dark and barricading ourselves in bedrooms. It was terrifying! I think what happened in Boston yesterday worked into my subconscious, and it didn't help that I watched an episode of Homeland right before bed. I kept waking up from the dream and trying to rationalize away the fear, but then as soon as I'd fall asleep again I'd be right back in zombie land. We're not safe anywhere, not even in our dreams!
  • listened to this show last weekend: http://www.pri.org/wiretap.html
the woman who collects dreams thinks that trends in dream collectively can PREDICT FUTURE EVENTS! She prefaces it by saying it's a controversial theory, but gives some neat examples.

This concept and the fact that we all grow a new stomach lining EVERY THREE DAYS (Mary Roach has a new book called GULP all about the alimentary canal) are my favorite things I've learned in April 2013.
  • I will check that out! I think that dreams are real as anything.
  • I dreamt of a massive waterpark that was not gross and plasticy and was integrated with nature and lots of hot springs and the most exciting waterslides ever and my 11 yr old nephew was with me and it was neat.

Also I think Jeff Brodsky's parents Gil and Margie Brodsky were hanging out.

Don't let those scary dreams get you down, Wanda.
  • Remember when Jake dreamed September 11th two days before it happened

Last night I dreamed my old man was going on a research trip to France and kept telling everyone how excited he was to hang out with his "French girlfriend." He had a theory that when you are outside the U.S. you get to have a girlfriend in whatever country you're in. He kept talking about how great it was gonna be to "finally have sex with my French girlfriend, it's just so nice to have something new after so long." I was trying to be really calm and collected but then finally at a party at Mike's house when he wouldn't stop talking about it and then Mike started talking about HIS french girlfriend, I freaked out and called them patriarchs and ran out crying

then still crying I ran into a 7-11 and was forced to adopt an orphaned Indian child. I kept being like "I can't believe Gary gets to go to France and have sex with some French girl while I have to raise this orphan. It truly is a man's world."

I woke up and told Gary about it and he said the theory about the foreign girlfriends is totally correct

(I'd Rather Be Dreaming About Zombies)
  • the two examples she gave were 40% increase in drowning dreams just before the tsunami, also before oklahoma city bombings explosion dreams were up but ONLY AROUND OKC.

(also to go 9/11 nostalgia anyone here remember how The Coup album was supposed to drop on 9/11/01 or maybe 9/12 and it featured a cover of the twin towers exploding? That was weird. They recalled the first printing and changed the cover)

YT that dreams sounds like a carnival of the patriarchy for sure! I had a vivid & memorable patriarchy terror dream in high school (inspired by the Specials song "Too Much Too Young") wherein I was stuck in a bathroom caring for two very small children thinking "How the FUCK am I trapped here with my two babies when I'M STILL A VIRGIN"
  • oh god pregnancy nightmares
I have recurring ones where I go into labor without realizing I was ever pregnant, and nothing in my life is set up to be prepared for a baby, and no one at work knew I was taking time off, and etc. BODY HORROR
  • The other night I had one where I suddenly became a mother of two young kids, and I took them and my husband to a psychiatrist and was like "Well what are we going to do."
  • Last night's was truly out of the ordinary for me. It involved a weird physical challenge with a rope and then some guy (large, mexican, big grin) trying to start the obstacle course (or whatever) after me but he also had a bunch of raving mad horses that were grinning/growling and charging at me full speed from the other side of the challenge, but they were connected to him by the rope and I was getting all tangled up in it.

Big toothy grins on attacking horses = maybe scarier than Zombies? I don't know. They're both pretty scary.
  • My married friend just got confronted by her coworker's wife because the wife had a dream that her husband cheated on her with my friend. DREAMS BE STARTIN SHIT IN PORTLAND!
  • Wait. CONFRONTED confronted? Not really, right? It was all in good fun, I hope.
  • Straight up confronted like "Sorry, this is a little weird, but I had a dream and I know dreams aren't real, but are you fucking my husband?"
  • Luckily for all of us, the answer was no.
  • I have pretty scary zombie dreams about once every two months, and I don't even WATCH zombie shows/movies (with the exception of two Walking Dead episodes). Very weird.
  • Been watching Borgen (Danish) (highly recommended) (lots of dramatic walking and cell phone dialing) and had a dream that I was the Prime Minister.
The Express was trying to write a smear article on me linking me to some hot baby mama but IT TOTALLY WASN'T TRUE YOU GUYS.
    I woke up. Did you?
  • if anyone confronted me in that way about a dream I would say "I'm sorry, I never want to speak to you again"
  • YT that is just going to be my motto for the day.
