Sony MDR 7506 are the gold standard headphones. When you see "professionals" wearing headphones, it's usually these. They are made for a "flat" response, so you might want something with more bass, like the Sennheiser HD 280, but I had a pair of 7506s for 10 years, and I recently got a new pair.
I have a pair of the Sony MDR V6 at work, which I think are the slightly cheaper "consumer" model of the 7506's. I mention it because the padding got torn up and I replaced it with these velour pads, and they're more comfortable than the original vinyl ear pads. Probably not worth buying for a new pair, but worth considering if you need replacements later on.
what about if all headphones you wear end up causing major ear-related headaches because of how they press on your glasses arms????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Some people just want to watch Walking Dead without the noise of the heater drowning out the very well-written and thoughtful and well-delivered dialogue!
I actually did get the V6s as well, but I feel like the stereo imaging is too extreme. Something that is panned somewhat to the left will sound like it's all the way to the left in the V6s. It's not awful, but that's why I recommended the 7506s instead of the V6s.
+1 to @Marc_Zuckerburg for MDR 7506. Those are all I've used for over a decade. Super comfy. Secret tip: MDR-7506's have a threaded 1/8th in plug. These threads always get screwed up in manufacturing, and the Chinese factory illegally sells "seconds" on ebay for around $40. The threads for the screw-on 1/4" adapter will be hosed, but you can still use a generic 1/4" adapter with no problem. I've bought these before specifically for work-headphones and they've been great. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=mdr-7506&LH_PrefLoc=2&_dcat=112529&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3
the 7506 are great for studio work and sealed design is good for flying/transit/etc.
for non-studio home listening i kind of prefer the Grado guys. SR-80? Plus they are made in Brooklyn, not in a scary asian sweatshop. And the look is more my style.

Have been using them for many months and they are a great option. Comfortable and sound good, not too heavy though if that is your thing

Before I got the Sonys, I bought some "Urbanears" headphones that totally hurt me because of my glasses arms (technical term: temples).
