  • I stayed up so late last night (uh oh, it's morning time again!)

Nicole G.'s reading was so awesome!! Then there was an after party at a bar near Powell's and I*n and I went and chatted and laughed until AFTER TEN O'CLOCK!!!

I WAS UP UNTIL JUST AFTER ELEVEN!!!

Now I'm back to the ol' grindstone, imploring my students to keep their voices down and checking uhx instead of backing up the Spanish teacher's lesson on los colores.

  • I just started taking un clase de espanol!
  • Me llamo Roy G. Biv.
  • I love myjob
  • My job was super stressful today. One of those days where people get super angry at me just because whatever new feature they want isn't what we're working on. They always say "You're not listening to your customers!" by which they mean we are not giving THEM the thing that they want RIGHT NOW. And then they try to say that because a hundred people have asked for something, we're a bad company for not doing it, even though that is a hundred people out of LITERALLY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

    So...
  • Mark that sounds muy dificil.
  • Lolo how long have you had your job for a long time huh
  • MZ, my job maybe resembled yours a little bit today. Except instead of talking to regular ol' customers, I talk to old, low-SES, severely depressed people and try to help them log in to our depression website!
  • Yeah, that's actually very similar.
  • I have had my job since 2009. I really like it. I talk to upset people daily and guide them through the Medicare system.

We're all vibe guides, you guys.

  • yeah, I'm for sure a vibe guide. So many different ways to guide vibes in this old world.
We who like our jobs are lucky
    Medicare is brutal
    Me-first customer narcissism is brutal
Students who refuse to spell-check is brutal
  • I like the idea of being a vibe guide.

It's funny how dealing with a super-rude depressed/diabetic/smoker persons does not seem nearly as frustrating to me as a student who refuses to spell-check. How can you not spell check!? I would have difficulty feeling and expressing empathy in that situation.
  • Spell-check is usually 'on', right? Wouldn't students have to turn off their spell-check to make spelling errors nowadays?
  • THIS IS WHAT I ASK MYSELF
  • Maybe they bought their papers from someone who doesn’t have spell check.
  • I love knowing I have full control over how someone gets information delivered to them. I'm PRETTY good at putting a positive spin on most situations.

Also, I might be getting a NEW job in May. OMG.
  • There is one dad in my class who I KNOW is signed up for the school enewsletter AND gets post notifications from my class blog who STILL IN JANUARY doesn't know when we have early release days because "I swear, no one told me! I swear ma'am I did not know!" Also asking me so many times for the "website address for the blog" even though it's printed on my business card (which I've given him many times) and is included on the homework menu I send out each Monday, AND of course in his inbox because of the aforementioned post notifications.

Also when he doesn't call me ma'am he calls me honey or sometimes gorgeous. The school secretaries get the same treatment. NOT APPROPRIATE!

The worst part of teaching. Weird dads. (And weird moms.)
  • Lolo- what's your potential new job? Is it top secret?
  • It's not top secret, really. I might be applying for the role of Admissions Director at my same campus (LHV). It would be a less stress job with salary (is this good? Sometimes...) and also a BONUS when our building is full, etc.

The woman is retiring in May. I think I have first dibs if I decide I want it. I have a meeting over lunch Monday to discuss further.

    In the meantime... where's HH?
