  • Set your clock forward an hour. Then you'll wake up at seven.

Seriously, I didn't change my alarm clock last weekend. The alarm goes off, I look at the time and it says 5:30 a.m. I hit snooze a couple of times, like normal, and then get up. By the time I realize what time it really is, I'm already up and awake and feeling good. Free hour!
  • Just get up. At 6am. Drink some coffee. Check your news. Email your Mom. Feel better about your life because getting up early FUCKING RULES.
  • that's what I've been doing!
but it's hard because then at 9:30 p.m. you're like oh god.....sooooo tired
  • it's a vicious and harmful cycle
  • It's a virtuous and harmonious cycle and it's what separates failures from success. Get up, drink coffee, and win.
  • i'm going to have extra late-day coffee and see if it helps

i want to live a normal human's life

    Hey YT,

I've been going to bed around 10pm on weekdays and getting up at 6:30 so I can do stuff before work at 8am. RULES SO HARD. EMBRACE IT! MORNINGS - Whoulda thunk? Get caught up with emails, do some work, going to start learning some new programming stuff, etc.
  • Then party hard on the weekends, obviously.
  • yeah ok
I guess embracing it is a good option

it's just already so hard for me to stay up late even when I'm getting up at a normal hour; this doesn't help

    but oh well

    "Be who you are"
  • YT -- ain't nothin wrong with going to bed early.

  • Woke up at 6:30 this morning. Just wanted to get up and get the day started, even though it was still dark outside and I had nothing to do.

Saw the sun for approximately one half hour. Now it's gone until tomorrow.
  • I have the opposite problem- i can't seem to go to sleep before 2am. WTF?
  • I have to get up during the 6 o clock hour, but my new thing is: no alarm clock!
I hate the sound of that thing, so I just have to get up. It's working
  • Wake up roulette! Cool move, LT!
  • this reminds me of the olden days, like the 18th century. You'd just tell your servant you had to be up by 2:00 to catch the post to Yorkshire or whatever. And when I read those books I always think "but how does the SERVANT get up then?"

    literally just vibes it
  • I woke up at 3:30 a.m. today. Not tired enough to go back to sleep, so I got up, took a shower and am now making coffee and breakfast. I have so much time before I need to go to work!
  • What did you do with all that time, curt?
  • 3:30!?!? Even as a pro-morning person that ain't right!

I'm shocked by your intellectual dishonesty in this matter, K5M!
  • 3:30am is not a productive time. No alarm should be set before 4:21am unless you're catching an early flight!
  • Yeah. I was up and in the shower before most of you West Coasters even went to bed.

I didn't accomplish as much as I would have liked. I did some homework and read a few chapters of "Snow Crash" (I'm re-reading it since I haven't in a few years).
  • or if you want to wake up at 4:19 to spark one up in time.

Morning begins at midnight. It is an iron law. Each person should use morning as they see fit.

Why do you hate freedom, K5M?

    6:18, and proud!
  • In order to maximize productivity it is important to get a full night of sleep. As such, rules should be followed that allow for natural sleep cycles and limit the need of stimulants and pharmaceutical sleep aids. There is much technology that can aid you but the primary focus should be on a regular sleep cycle and moderate daily exercise.

Healthy minds + healthy bodies = larger profits.

As someone who has been typically waking up between 4:45-6am for the past six years--all I can say is.. OWN IT.

Barista opens up at 6am. Many coffee shops open at 6:30--the lazy ones open up at 7 or later. Let that first espresso shot sink in...and Make It Happen. I find my brain to be more alert and focused early in the morning than at night.

...but be sure to get enough sleep.
