I just knitted it with ribbon yarn and really big needles (15?). Every few rows I would triple wrap the yarn each time I knitted it - and when you let it out, you get a nice wide open row for contrast. Then I stitched it together to make the cowl/tube action.
aw, thanks guys! my new method for fool-proof baking is twofold:
ONLY USE MARTHA STEWART RECIPES they are simple classics, and you know she has a staff that tests that shit out until it's perfect. she might even use a cat o' nine tails on them, I wouldn't be surprised. martha=perfection.
ASK JAC for general advice on the recipe, to make sure I understand all the steps, and/or ideas for modification.
I literally can't tell you, because some of it was illegal!
But also there was a weird old wood block with a painting of a squid taking down an ocean liner; a cool wood block with American flags and "DEATH" written on it in cursive; some cool Pacific Northwest "Tree Ring Drink Coasters," and a tin of delicious classic shortbread cookies!

It's this cake:

(with the addition of just a pinch of fresh grated ginger)
On top was a simple chocolate ganache, recipe also in Martha Stewart's domain or in Jac D's brain. I asked Jac, she advised, it came out great! Right?
