  • I'm up.

    Doesn't count though.
  • I get up at 6:45 on purpose.... 5:45 if I have to get to work early

    #nothelpful
  • My prediction is that your dog is putting a curse on you. If he is like my poochie, he wants breakfast at the b-crack of dawn.
  • I used to go to bed at 1 and get up at 8.

Now I go to bed at 11 and get up at 7:15. Very respectable!
  • * both later on the weekends obvi
  • Fuck waking up early. I feel nauseous if I wake up before 9am, which is what time I woke up today.
  • I am jealous of you who get up after 8
  • Sometimes I really appreciate that I naturally get up early and enjoy it....but other times I am jealous of the more sluggish amongst us, because I feel dumb about how difficult it is for me to stay up late. But late night is when the action happens, and I miss so much!

    OH WHAT TO DO
  • but YT, you are so much better and staying up late (if you really want to) than you used to be.

    you are downright flexible!
  • I have been waking up between 8 and 8:30AM lately. This is very early for me. I am a night owl for sure. I think I've been waking up early because I don't have things I really must work on really late into the night.
Making an extra effort to be out of the house by 9 or 10AM is a new occasional thing in my life. I like it. It's nice to be fed, showered, and dressed and see what everyone is up to out there in the world.
Otherwise I just roll out of bed, take my sweet time with breakfast and emails, start working and then remember that I should go outside when the sun comes down.
  • joey, you're my soul sister.
  • I am always up at 6:10 on weekdays during the school year. Boo hoo. It does not come easily to me! I get ready in the dark because I am not ready for lights at 6:10 AM!
  • Owls:
    Haha!
    We are ARTISTS, dear.
  • YT, are you getting enough sleep on the whole? I am a powerful believer in sleep..... if you aren't getting enough sleep, it is really dangerous.
  • I feel I am getting plenty of sleep. I feel rested and alive, and I wake up early before the alarm most days, just because I'm done sleeping. Doesn't feel unhealthy in an insomnia way.

Steve it is really nice of you to say this. I have really been trying to be conscious about saying "yes" more often to late-night or otherwise spontaneous things and I have been feeling better about my relationship to these things, although I still am by no means a night owl and probably never will be. So nice of you to say! A thing I am working on

Nighttime is a weird time. It creeps me out. People I know who like being up and working in the middle of the night, they talk about how quiet and still everything is and how it helps them concentrate. Logically I totally get that, but for me being awake when everyone is asleep gives me the howling fantods. I like a chirping bird and the sound of a garbage truck
  • Is it because you grew up in the damn wilderness
  • nighttime in my childhood home was indeed intensely terrifying. Utter silence and utter darkness and then the wind sometimes HOWLING, moaning and crying around the corners of the house. I'd sneak our filthy dog into bed with me and it would make my mom so mad
  • Heatcliff, it's me, Cathy.
  • "I'm still an artist."

I do sometimes envy the early risers, as most things seem built for them (aside from late night misbehavior), and they are seen as more industrious and productive folks, even though I only sleep 6 or 7 hours myself, it's just shifted.
  • I love to sleep in. But then I get all emo when it gets dark after I slept into like 1pm. Which rarely happens anymore because I have a job with a schedule and stuff. When we lived in Anacortes I would always end up going to bed at 3 or 4 in the morning.
  • they say a life with a good, predictable structure makes both dogs and people feel more at ease.

  • Staying up all night in Anacortes, especially in January, is risky.
There was a January, I think it was 2006? Where so many of us would stay up so so late every night. The D.O.S. felt very soviet-like, our faces were grey.
I have a rule that no matter how late I go to bed I need to get out of bed before noon.
    It seems to work.
  • I wish I could wake up earlier; I theoretically love morning time -- quiet streets; quiet house; fresh morning dew; hot coffee; snuggling and stretching before going into my challenging job...

The reality is I snooze like 10 times and curse a lot sometimes about how late I'm going to be. Then I plop on my bike and go real fast and hurry to work semi stressed/worried.
  • it's getting worse! Now I'm waking up reliably at like 4:00 a.m. Then just laying there for hours. What in the honest fuck?
I finally got up today just as dawn was breaking. The neighbor's chickens going apeshit. The streetlight still on. The dog confused.
It's not insomnia--I fall asleep great and sleep soundly. I am just waking up at the butt crack.
    ?
  • Is hyper sensitivity to melatonin-producing vitamins a culprit?
Or maybe you are just wound up...
  • If you are up anyway, it's a great time to read and write and make lists.
  • I've been getting pretty into evernote lately for lists.
  • what is evernote
  • edited October 2012
organization app that syncs with all my computers

    http://evernote.com

    check it out! it's free!
  • that looks awesome!
the introduction video is so funny though, it just shows people using computers and iPhones. Yeah I'm doing that already!
  • For me, Evernote is too memory-hoggy. Makes my machine slow.

(But I'm also usually trying to save most of the internet as a 'note-for-later'. Your mileage may vary.)
  • I am getting into the ubersimple WORKFLOWY
  • it happened again
went to bed at midnight, woke up at 6:00

am I transitioning into needing less sleep because I was bit by a radioactive spider and I am becoming some sort of spider-man

    super hero

The Man Who Needs A Lower-Than-Average Amount Of Sleep

    "Is it a bird?"
    "Is it a plane?"
"NO! It's That Guy Who Only Sleeps 6 Hours A Night!"

"This looks like a job for someone who needs slightly less sleep than other people"
  • Can you take naps?

I am scared of not enough sleep. It has a cumulative effect
but hey, you know you best
  • I can't nap
I just lay there thinking about all the stuff I could/should/would rather be doing
I think naps are great but mine have to happen accidentally

So far I'm feeling fine! Had no problem staying up til midnight last night. WTF

I'm gonna stick with the spider-man interpretation until further evidence presents itself
  • One night I was tired at 8:30. The next night has plenty of energy at 11pm. I'm not going to fight it. Let the body be. I'll work hard when I have energy and sleep when I'm tired.
  • LIKE AN ANIMAL
  • but a dignified animal.

    image
  • oh holy lord
  • I got up to be at work an hour early yesterday! I wrote an extra blog post! It is too controversial to post. :( But I enjoyed the way the light in the office looked before anyone else arrived! :)
  • I love that 'before everyone else' feeling.
  • Today I slept in! Until 10am! PST!
  • I have the howling fantods
  • I'm going to go to the snack machine and buy the biggest f****** chocolate candy there is, g** d*****
