What You Doing?

edited August 2012
Today is Tuesday. Some of us are going to YU later yeah?

Then tomorrow we play croquet at Yours Truly and Gary's Palace of Celebrations.

Then Thursday happens. Then Friday. Then the weekend.

We should do something (softball?) this weekend. But not Saturday, I'm busy until 5pm. Unless... night game?

  • softball is a great call. i vote blindly for sunday softball
  • I have plans Wed and Fri but am otherwise FREEEEE

school starts starting up for me on the 24th so I would love to get in a bit more socializing before the hammer drops
  • Yah- let's do something this weekend! It's going to be so hot- evening softball may be the way to go if we want to play that sport. Or else... what about a Sunday swim day at the pool of (many of) our alma mater? We could set up some lawn games too and a picnic... Refreshing? Fun? Kids and dogs welcome...
  • Hmmm. YU. Hmmm. Boogie. Hmmm. Whatever I do tonight, I'm pretty sure I'll do it sweaty.
  • SWIMMING PLEASE!

I am currently workin two jobs- so my only free time is weekday evenings, sometimes, and weekend afternoon/evening. Very much cramping my end of summer style!

Come month's end I will want to be swimming in, eating of, running around, and soaking up everything.

Maybe not Kuchar, got a project to work on!
No boogie night but I do like those big old drinks they make there!
    Yes anniversary party!
Yes swimming when it's too hot out to play f'in softball!
  • Pool party sounds pretty good.

    Weather by Steve.
  • I will be at a bachelorette party in the woods by a lake this weekend (my kind of bachelorette party)! But if I'm back in time for a Sunday softball game, I would join!
  • Hike Club is doing this on Sunday:
    http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Elk_Cove_from_Vista_Ridge_Hike

We'll probably dip into a lake or river afterward.

I got a wedding on Saturday, but there's also Mike Knapp's birthday/goodbye party (he's going to grad school in TURKEY for 2 years!) at YU on Sat:
    https://www.facebook.com/events/443647705674932

Should be some good beats/YU rules racquetball at that.

    Going to ikea
    Taping stuff At PCM
    Setting up Ike's furnys
    Working video

The house that Wanda keeps me in is a big open room... Need more expedit!

I don't know about you but in the summer I do not want to do my chores. So I am getting a shelf to put it away
  • It's may not be pool weather, just as Uncle BS predicted! If no one is gung ho about swimming then I think I'll stay home and do my chores, too. I'm going home to Denver tomorrow and when I get back school starts! My summer is coming to a close, you guys.

I think that I will throw a backyard party in the next three weeks though- a last huzzah. UHX friends will be on the VIP list. Details to follow.

    Have a great day, dudes!
  • I changed my mind- I would rather swim than chore. Anybody? Sent Wanda a text...
  • It's back on! Wanda is in!
  • We rallied, drove out there, and found the pool to be closed!

Still was nice to lay on a blanket in the sun.

J-Dawg and I hung out with our friends and a few dozen 7th Day Adventist families ("SDAs") for the last five days at an inexpensive off-the-grid camp in the mountains swimming and BMXing, sailing unsinkable little sailboats and eating heaps of salad and french toast. It was an awesome workout for my metaphysical-anthropology and psychoanalytic-ESP muscles to compassionately deconstruct the occasional blooms of charismatic Jesus talk. Meanwhile J-Dawg deeply dug the pony rides and indie-ish anthems the cute highschool indie poppers sang about a supercool Galilean.

It was a good interesting time. It turns out the world is full of all kinds of stuff.

I feel super healthy and peaceful.

    Hi!

Oh. And Belknap Hotsprings. A pleasant oddity. We identified its style as High Vict-Oregon Huckster. Pool and gardens, recommended stop. On the big mountain highway 60 miles east of Eugene.
  • I've had some chill Jesus-related vacations in my life. Some of it is ok.
  • I went on the bachelorette-party-campout from HELL last weekend.
  • Story please!
  • White gowns and Brazilian Kabobs?
  • Oh no! Sorry to keep you waiting so long!

I am a teensy bit nervous that someone on the camping trip will somehow find this post, because everyone there is an artsy-fartsy. So, in case that happens: please know that despite the obvious mishaps, I am still glad I went to celebrate our mutual friend!

But ok, seriously. First of all, the organizers did not reserve a campground, nor did they know exactly where they wanted to go. So when I showed up at the bride's house Sat. morning, I suggested heading to lower lewis river falls (actually as a result of pictures Gary showed me at bigmac's going away party). Long story short: the campground was full, and we ended up spending SEVEN HOURS driving around, trying to find a place to camp. My poor pooch was in the back of the car just fuming at me for making him do this.

The place we landed was super dusty/sandy, and we went for a hike in the dust/sand, so everyone (including the pooch) got really dirty. The pooch also found some horse shit to roll in before I could stop him.

Back at the campsite, around 10pm, one of the ladies, who is also a mom, realized that someone must have taken her breast-pump backpack out of the car on one of our many stops that day without putting it back in. So she was breast-pump-less, which is not a fun situation, I gather. She considered driving home right then and there, but we found some mediocre solutions to this problem which I will not go into here.

Finally, we headed to the tents. One of the girls asked to sleep in my tent - the only girl on the trip not very fond of pooches. So that meant Ukiah couldn't sleep with me, but that's ok. He needs to get tough. I tied him up outside. THEN, at 1AM, this HUGE lightning/thunder storm hit and poor Ukiah was absolutely terrified. He found an opening in the tent door and barreled his way into the tent, landing right on top of the other girl. I didn't know what to do! The girl suggested I put Ukiah in the car, and I thought it might calm him down to be in an enclosed place, so I tried it. But his heart was pounding so fast and he was shaking and I felt so sorry for him! I lay awake in my tent for the next hour, then finally felt so sick with worry for my dumb dog that I took my sleeping bag and "slept" the rest of the night with him in the back of the car...with him lying on my head. Which was the only position in which he would chill out and go to sleep. Good thing I can't smell!

Then in the morning, one of the ladies pointed out that I had a flat tire. Luckily, it wasn't so flat that I couldn't drive most of the way home on it, but are you kidding me?

That is all. That was a long story.

  • what a terrible trial you have had. it sounds awful in so many different ways, none of them really anyone's fault...except, why was there no planning whatsoever? And, I'm sorry, but asking to share someone's tent and then telling them to put their dog in the car is FUCKING WEAK/WEIRD. I would have been like "why don't YOU go sleep in the car, tent-less person I am letting share my tent out of the goodness of my heart?" (note: I actually probably would not have said this, but I would have thought it and then been passive aggressive about it).

It sounds crazy!!!!! POOR PLANNING! Plus dust/horseshit/lightning storm, plus breast pump?! That poor woman.

I bet you were glad to get home!
  • Good story!
  • At least while you were camping you didn't come across THE KILLER. He still hasn't been caught.
  • That sounds fucking terrible!
  • What I am doing right now: eating chocolate ice cream with peaches.
  • No bread? Made cornbread this AM.
  • I'm eating a fried egg on an english muffin and a bowl of nectarines and blackberries

a couple times a year I actually eat an appropriate breakfast

who knows what I shall accomplish today thus

Came to work early to TCOB. When I was coming here on the bus, I listened to "Nostalgia, Ultra" (2011) by Frank Ocean for the first time. Innnnnn Loveeeeeee

    From wikipedia:
Ocean, when uploading the album to iTunes, labeled it as bluegrass and death metal, out of arbitrariness. When asked about why he uploaded the songs in that way, he replied; "I don't want to seem like I have a cause against genres, or maybe I do... Bluegrass is swag. Bluegrass is all the way swag."

I like this contemporary music. Then I listened to Kim Fowley "Automatic" (1974), who asks "BAMA RAMA DONG DING. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?"
