Kid's Birthday Dilemma

edited July 2012
So apparently only the Madison Ave store sells clothes for girls. Which means if I want to get some nice Brooks Bros. for my niece's birthday I can't see it in person first...

What else does a fancy uncle buy a kid if not a Brooks Brother's navy blazer?

Boy's jacket in the right size... so she can go all Shiloh Jolie-Pitt style.
  • WHAT STEVE SAID! GOD!
  • WHAT DOES SHE LIKE!? How does she even know what she likes? She's just a child!
  • Maybe an iPad? Is that what you mean?
  • Ask J-Dawg!
  • Make a donation in her name to the GOP
  • Zin and I went to Nordy's. No navy blazer's for kids. WHAT IS WITH THIS TOWN?!
  • Okay... how about a Treasury Bond redeemable at age 21?
  • Oh! That's a good one!
  • But seriously, if this kid doesn't want a navy blazer she is going to be SO BUMMED about your gift.
  • I would been fucking BUMMED to get a navy blazer as a kid.
  • I'd be fucking BUMMED to get a navy blazer now, too.
  • Oh good, now I know what to get Alex for his birthday. In fact, new present for everyone all the time. NAVY BLAZERS FOR EVERYONE.
  • Why do you want to intentionally bum me out KmikeyM?
  • I just want you to look nice.

  • I got a Sunprint Kit from Canoe*. It seems like it would be fun, plus it's developed by educators at UC Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science.

"Sunprints encourage an interest in the photographic process using only sun and water. Place a leaf, flower, or other object on the special photosensitive paper and set it in the sun briefly. Then rinse the paper in water and watch as a beautiful long-lasting image appears."

Science + Art seems like a good idea.

Ideas to make your gift represent special time shared with her uncle
    - Try setting personal items on the sunprint, such as paper currency, coins, bank cards, navy blazers, etc...
    - Make exciting discoveries with the young person. How does a seersucker imprint compare to linen? Cotton vs. wool?
  • You can start a her collection of visual art with some original or print art from Black Wagon. An Ipad with a book installed. Maybe the photo kit goes with a photo expedition to take them or something like OMSI and optics or to a photography gallery and some history of early women photogs.
  • LOLIRL at sunprinting a navy blazer.
