I wanted to start a new board game thread... old one is buried in old UHX. I don't remember what games I suggested, but the one game I still play most regularly (by a landslide) is
ticket to ride
This game is easy to learn, easy to set up, and a blast to play. There is lots of room for strategy, but casual players don't have to worry about falling too far behind if they just want to role-play or connect their favorite cities. Europe and USA are the two main boards... but there are lots of great expansions if you prefer other parts of the world. Switzerland is probably the best if you are going to spend a lot of time playing 1 on 1 though.
What games are you playing?

I am a Catan man myself, although I haven't played in ages. I need a good Catan crew. A crew that is serious about playing, but not so competitive that it gets awkward with temper tantrums like certain people I have played with in the past (no one here). Anyone?
Also a big fan of Boggle, which I realize is kind of a different concept of game.
The one game I hate and will not play is Risk
CATAN
I mean, I have some business in the closet I'd like to share.
I mean, I have some games related to business in the closet. Just like, on a shelf.
I mean, I have something I need to tell you guys...
that one game Ritchey likes where you write down five things, and that one time M_Zuck said "napping" for one of things "people do on spring break?
That game is the best!
Also Mad Gab but I think I'm an expert now and that makes games short.
I'm talking about business games. Like Acquire:
It's a business game! It's perfect for two players (and only two players)! You don't need friends! There are expansion packs! NERDS!
To a lesser extent:
Another great game for two.
A classic 'Nick' game that I've turned a lot of UHX-ers onto, which allows for lots of players:
I LOVE GAMES
Steve found it at a garage sale and I have literally never seen it anywhere else, or met anyone who has ever heard of it. How can the greatest game in the world be so obscure!?
Yeah, Dalas said "napping" and also he said "catching up on homework," AND he said something like "community service."
I have never laughed harder. Everyone else was like "BEER BONGS. DATE RAPE. BARFING"
different!
I stand corrected!
I think our general glee was reaching its peak at that point in the night, and your sweet answers made me laugh so hard it hurt, thinking about a real nice grown up break compared to Girlz Gone Barf.
HOW SOON CAN I PLAY THIS GAME AGAIN?????
Also, I would love to play Aquire! I have it, but nobody will play it with me. I WANT ALL THOSE BOOKSHELF GAMES!! I love how they look standing upright on my bookshelf, like big important novels. I only have 3 at the moment, there are 3 different companies that make them, all cool.
Two terrific and fun two-player games... both easy and pretty
Caesar & Cleopatra
Use prostitutes and orgies to influence patricians!
Also... Balloon Cup
great tiny game with easy rules and setup! Cute!
I think i need to start a gaming cafe in Portland.
I think i need to stop washing windows... and eat more pizza.
All my rich sorority/fraternity type friends went to some beach in Florida, by way of my friend's family's (empty) condo in N. Florida somewhere. I stayed alone at the condo all week while everyone else went south to party, taking notes to write my history thesis. Hundreds of notecards!
Then, upon my return, I realized that 1) I left all of my notes at the condo - the whole week's work was gone! - and 2) I was never supposed to have signed up for my thesis class as a sophomore in the first place. Theses are for seniors about to graduate. But I wrote it anyway. Got an A.
The end.
My one other spring break of memory is the trip where I met Portland ^_^
If I didn't go on that trip, I would have gone to Cal Arts and today I would be ..........
All Creatures Big and Small
This is a great condensed version of the popular agricola game. Both are turn/decision based games, with no elements of chance. Unlike agricola, however, 'ACBS' focuses on animal husbandry and has only a fraction of the rules and available choices. This makes the game much easier to set up, much quicker to play, and a lot less confusing. It is very hard for me to find people willing to commit to a game of Agricola, so this game is a wonderful compromise. If you like this game and want to take the next step, check out puerto rico first... and then tackle agricola.
I haven't seen that version which seems a lot more neon than the one I've played.
