i have gotten into a weird habit that i call activist clicking. becoming aware of the impact of clicking something on a website, i have found myself clicking things not because i want to but because i support something. for instance, i often click on the ads of web pages that i really like, even if i have no interest in looking at the ad. i also make it a point to click all the film and art reviews on the local newspaper's website, since film and art reviews are slowly going to be wayside in favor of sports and politics and crime and sports. also, the discussion in another thread about FB has got me clicking 'like' a lot, hoping to help my friends who i don't want to see get swallowed up by the FB filters.
it's been weird watching the internet drift in the direction of network TV, where ratings rule. traffic, clicks, likes, and comments, are replacing the Nielson boxes that monitor people TV viewing habits. Watching the Oregonian's website has been so sad- stories that don't generate tons of comments get pushed to the way way back, to the point where we now see 20+ sports updates a day, but less then 10 film/art/music stories all week. i don't like it.

p.s. not knocking on creative people.
Incidentally, I am showing some videos in the next couple of weeks at this festival in Austin called NMASS. I am really excited about one of my fellow artists. It is a video installation where the imagery is football players. I have only seen still images but it looks like the figures are almost in this neon ballet.
** I just wished the media covered art/music/films as much as they cover sports.
double bang for your buck. or click.
