Mother's Day

edited May 2012
Is this a real holiday? (Does it matter? Mom thinks it is real!)

What are you getting your Mom?

Comments

  • "Turn Of The Screw" e book
  • I am having my mother over for brunch. There will be mimosas and flowers.

What do you cook for brunch?!???!!!!???????

My dad always gets my mom a mothers day present and it always annoys her. "I'm not his mom."
  • I'M NOT MAKIN A DAMN QUICHE
  • I was thinking egg mcmuffins
  • Make some cereal with milk
and say "I don't know how to cook I'm just a baby"
my mom would secretly like that
  • An asparagus tart!
  • I'm making traditional family recipe MIGAS, which is big mess of eggs, tortillas, potatoes, beans, other stuff. Also fruit salad and mimosas.

Maybe some asparagus though on the side!!!!!
  • That sounds AMAZING.

MIGAS!!! Like a breakfast burrito scramble.
  • Migas is delightful--totally a breakfast burrito scramble!! I never thought of that. But with corn tortillas.
the tortillas get sort of crisp, so you have like mildly crisp tortilla bites hidden amongst the oily potatoes and the eggs. Put some cilantro and salsa on there!

I will make migas for anyone who wishes
  • Migas! wow these sound amazing! I wanna try your migas!

I will also be making brunch in my moms' garden. Maybe Franch Toasts?

(french toast only instead of eggs you use ranch)
  • Dang Bobby, I'm already planning on making your mom breakfast on Sunday morning.
  • I want the migas! I need to use this new bottle of Cholula sauce I got.
  • I make it with straight up CHIPS

    T-Chips
  • looks like a good ol' fashioned mom-off.
  • yeah, I like doing a migas with t-chips as well. It's easier to get that perfectly crunchy goodness. My migas are so plain though, I like the idea of adding stuff to them. Maybe choco-chips???
  • NO WAY
    tortillas!
THis is like people who say you can make tortilla soup by just dumping some chips in there.
    ABSOLUTELY NOT
It is a labor of love but you simply have to fry your own. I am not bullshitting around here people
  • It is a labor of love for those hari krishnas to make my have'a chips. They have more love than I do. If this is about love, the numbers are in.
  • Does anyone remember the tortilla chips they used to make at Big City Produce? They were made on site and of course the best of all time. Every chip was like a salty, French ppastry.
  • YES! AND THEY HAD THE BEST SALSA!
  • Somewhat related, my favorite breakfast burrito growing up was from Kono's Cafe in Pacific Beach, perfect after early morning surfing or body boarding.

Tortilla chips in migas are good! That's how I use up all those little busted broken pieces of chips at the bottom of the bag.

My personal favorite brand of tortilla chips are Juanitas, which I just found out are made in Hood River.
  • Yeah, those are the best ones around here. Cherry Sprout also had some really good ones that I forget the name of.

The Juanitas jalapeno flavored chips are worth trying. They're just barely flavored.
  • YES! AND THEY HAD THE BEST SALSA!

(i was thinking of cherry sprout when @Loose_Thread said Big City Produce.)

Well remember when it used to be Big City. They had these huge clear plastic sacks of the chip. They had like an inkjet label on them and they were made in the back. They stopped making them before it switched to Cherry Sprout aka Cherry Spot (better name, no?). Now, they have Juanitas and Have'A Chip.
Those chips they made on site were obviously awesome since they were fresh and barely transported, but Juanitas are an A++++ chip. Have'A is great and can be found anywhere; I like the light tamari flavor.
  • Had some Have'As this weekend and they were great. I liked them even better than Juanitas.
  • HaveAs are truly the King of Chips, they have no equal, even in a real restaurant where they're made right there in a big-ass vat

In a salsa, in a dip
put it on this handsome chip

    guacamole hummus cheese
    these are guaranteed to please

eat them plain or with adornment
never will they earn your scornment

    breakfast lunch and dinner too
HaveA's right for me and you!!!!!!!!!
