thanks L/T. the WW review of the show was oddly similar.
but these reviews, and their unfavorable review of the curation of Portland 2012, has got me thinking. they have criticized the show for it's 'lack of curatorial vision' but for big/regional survey shows like this don't you kind of want that? i mean, for something like Portland 2012 I want to see a sampling of the cities best and brightest artists, not some curators overly thought out concept. a good, high concept curated show is fine the rest of the time, but for these big group shows i say F it, pile in as many artists as you can and let the viewers have a buffet.
trying to get all authoritative voice on our asses. dumb review, dumb reviewer. people think they gotta find something to harp on. comes off sounding like a whiney bitch and kind of a hater tho. good luck making friends, mr reviewer "im not here to make friends" whatever bro how many cents they paying you per word tho? if you want things all organized and easy to consume and not so hodge-podge, there's a walmart in clakamas, bro.
yo bro, you wanna critique the biennial? fuck yeah bro
yo bro i went to all that shit and it was mad confusing imma write some shit about that tho
yeah bro stay objective and just write how you felt
yeah i am man, these artist, curators and people trying to do a cool thing for this lil city gotta RECOGNIZE...imma get up in this shit and write my opinion in the paper. cause im like that. that's my shit. whats up now???
I think only 300 something artists even applied this year, down from over 2-3?x that in the old biennal. The curator depended on studio visits more so than has been done in the past. Time consuming, but awesome.
Critics will always find something to criticize, personal taste way rules over that.
Maybe Frogtor could collaborate with Tanner Dobson?
