I am excited - the books were so good, but because of the characters and story, not because of the prose, so hopefully they will translate well to film. But, guys? Have you see the actor they chose for Peeta? I'm not buying it.
the Peeta/Gale dilemma becomes incredibly resolved, keep reading!!!! No spoilers!!!!!!!
god those books are fucking heavy. The darkest most pessimistic vision of humanity and civilization, can't believe they are popular YA books. Very legit.
I couldn't even vaguely begin mapping out where in the actual USA all that shit occurred! Wouldn't the fancytown city be on the ocean? They usually are.
After seeing the preview Gary would not stop talking about the elaborate facial hair. "So the point of the story is that everyone has elaborate facial hair." "Well, no, you see, it's symbolic of the luxury class---" "So THEY'RE the ones with the elaborate facial hair???" etc.
Even though I am preemptively dissappointed in what Hollywood does to the nuances of this story!!!!!!!!!
I choose neither Peeta or Gale, she doesn't need them. :) Jennifer Whatshername was so SO SO SO SO SO good in Winter's Bone- I thought that movie was amazing. Most favorite movie of recent years. Her appearance doesn't really match my impression of Katniss though- she's too old, too well fed, too pretty! She'll certainly do it well, I'm sure, I just wish she was more scrappy, physically. You can't dye a babe's hair brown and make her a serf!
Dir. Gralnick is married to an old friend of mine. My friend Steve (of The Chapel) recorded a lot of the sound.
Saw it in the bar/cinema in Athens, GA when it came out. Double Dewars rocks and a Rolling Rock. Fucking unreal. Journey through the ghostlands. The lake? Goddamn.
It was something to see a friend's indie movie curve from the arthouse to the oscars. The system works. So they say, right?
Hunger Games, huh? I saw some skinny girl/young lady on the cover of people magazine. I thought it was a reality show. It looked creepy.
your sweet precious angel baby girl may be too innocent for blood games, but maybe when she is older she will appreciate this tale that features a strong female protagonist navigating the cultural waters of being seen, wearing the latest fashions, acting the role of the good girl, etc.
It is about a reality show!
It's weird and cool because it all plays out in this background of materialism and surface. It's like a parable for young girls to find their character while under the public eye.
but definitely a lot of super gory blood-spattering murder scenes and some fucking disturbing Stephen King-esque murderous reality TV show dystopias and some very disturbing teen girl fashion appearance bullshit like what RCH says and all in the goal of being like "LOOK AT THIS SHIT, THERE IS NO WAY OUT"

Read all three of those in like one sitting
I can't go to the movie until after March 28 but I'll be there with you in spirit
OK ladies- Peeta or Gale?
(No spoilers though- I'm not done with the last book!)
Did you guys and gals see Winter's Bone
That was a good movie
Katniss Everdeen is played by the same chick from that flick
She is typecast as a badass scrappy Appalachian teen bent on survival and defending her family!!!!!
They have that golden domed library. I can see that in the future, these people would obviously turn into materialist dictators.

I would name a baby Katniss
And the Capitol is fortified because it is in the rocky mountains.
