Who else just straight-up missed St. Patricks Day?

edited March 2012
I care nothing about this holiday, but still, it seems like even if one totally pays no attention to it, once is still accosted by people pinching you for not wearing green. This did not happen. Did I stay inside all day? I can't remember.

I think this is the first time any major Fancy Day in America has ever actually straight-up passed me by. I was just sitting here thinking "hmm, I wonder when St. Patricks Day is?" Googled it, and felt somewhat aghast.

  • I almost did, I really didn't even know!

That holiday makes me mad, because I'd like to celebrate being Irish but I don't want to hang out with the drunkest of drunks who are drinking to be the drunkest.

Also, I don't think St. Patrick is all that cool. Ireland had a great pantheism goin' on before he got there! Yuk, Christianity.
  • Also it's fucked up that we still celebrate being Irish by basically getting shitfaced.

I was just looking at a bunch of immigration cartoons from the turn of the century and all the Irish are drunk. That's, like, the defining feature marking them as Irish, also plaid waistcoats.

Such a weird stereotype. Surely most cultures are filled with drunks. What about the Russians?? Come on!
  • I was sick that day. Kinda want to try a shamrock shake for the first time.

Irish people are pretty legit drinkers tho, not totally made up.
  • We are pretty legit. I'd like to celebrate my Irishness with a nice glass of whisky and a roaring fire, and a wooly sweater and a wet dog. And my dead grandpa.

    Would that be so hard?
  • All stereotypes are always true.

I'd like to celebrate my Irisheness in a green meadow, my head resting on the bare, freckled chest of a slight but muscular Irishman, sipping a glass of dry cider.
  • I celebrate mine with an affinity towards punning and also madness

I went to a clown show. It felt St. Patricky. Crowd was solicitous of wee folk.
