DAYLIGHT SAVINGS

edited March 2012
Who forgot about it?
Not me, not this time! For once!

Gary and I slept until 11:30

  • I let my robots handle it.

It meant J-Dawg 'slept in' to 8:45.
  • I forgot! Missed a health fair I was supposed to attend! Oh well.

Twitter reminded me. And again I thought, "daylight savings is the dumbest."

The one thing that Arizona gets right: no DST
  • it's cool! we get longer days now, what's not to like?
  • Yeah, I would prefer we just stay in this mode with the later sun.
  • The days are already longer! That's what summer is!

I don't like it because there's really no reason for it. It doesn't help farmers, it doesn't save on electricity, it's just this weird tradition that we all do.

And there's some problems it causes. Heart attacks and suicides rise in the weeks after the spring change.

Russia moved to permanent Daylight Saving. That sounds OK to me. I guess the switch twice a year is what bugs me the most. Leave the clocks alone!
  • what if we had to lose a whole day, and it was monday!
  • It makes the days EVEN LONGER! I seriously do not understand why you would be opposed to this. SUNLIGHT AT 10PM!

This is literally what I wait all year for.

  • Look, fine, then DST all year. But honestly, if you have kids, sunlight at 10pm suuuuuucks. And the hour change also confuses their internal clocks and they don't feel sleepy at their bedtime.
  • I like the result, just not the process!

Extremely shortened day today due to sleeping in (a weekend gift) and DST.
It's 9:30 and I haven't had dinner yet? Ugh! I only did a tiny portion of the things I hope to today, :(

I'm just real protective of my tiny little weekend, and yeah, I would like to whine about it. WAAAAAAAAA
  • We can't run society based on grumpy kids.
  • I'm not saying we should. I'm just saying that's a reason I don't like it.
  • Truth, but I'm grumpy from running society.
  • My day was lengthened to eternity because of DMT
  • I feel grumpy. The sun was in my eyes walking to work today. Usually it is a bit higher in the sky.
  • I enjoy the long day, but I do find that I never totally adjust to eating dinner when it's full blazing daylight out.

I will tell you guys something that will make all of you mad: By far my favorite DST is the one in fall, when suddenly night comes SO early and it's so dark and cozy out at like 5:00 pm

    I KNOW!
  • I can't wait to get off work and get like TWO MORE HOURS OF DAYLIGHT AT HOME.

There are a wall of windows at my place. Daylight is key to maximizing enjoyment of that space!
  • I am former vampire

    All hail lord Apollo
  • The advantage of daylight sticking around after my work day ends is pretty huge for me, actually- I use it to make the photographs!
If it weren't so cloudy I'd do it today!

No more griping, just swiping.... my camera... around
  • And what does a genuine kid think about DST?

A cute email arrived from the former Mrs. Dr.:

"Josie wants to move to Arizona b/c they do not have daylight saving time

She says "what hour did we lose? Midnight? WELL THEN THERE IS NO MORE MIDNIGHT!"
  • listen to the children
  • YT,
you are telling me your dinner preference doesn't include eating corn on the cob on someone's nice warm sunset lit patio on a summer evening?

You might just be a nature/weather/time contrarian.
  • Well that does sound really nice.

    I like both!!!

"To every thing [turn turn turn] there is a season [turn turn turn] and a time for every purpose under heaven

A TIME TO BE COZY / A TIME TO EAT CORN / A TIME TO RAGE OUTSIDE / A TIME TO WATCH HULU / A TIME TO SLEEP / A TIME TO GO HIKING / A TIME TO JOG A TIME TO DO YOGA INSIDE
  • I totally agree there is a time for both. I ACCEPT ALL SEASONS! I also agree that, especially in Portland, we put almost too much emphasis on summer and put too much pressure on cramming all the fun and good feelings for the whole year into those 3 months, so I respect your "cozy winter is the best attitude." Alas, your tone almost rebukes the beautiful comfortable bare skin lots of light summertime.
  • No, I definitely am looking forward to the bare skin light summertime!!! Really looking forward! I think I just embrace the season I am in? Or I just legitimately really do enjoy the cozy times. Not that they are "better" but just good in their own right.

Summertime in Portland is so great!!!!!! It's going to be amazing after 3 Iowa summers, with the horrible heat/humidity and the swarms of bugs and the pig farm smell.

    I want to:
    - take the snoopy on hikes
    - go to the coast
    - go to barbecues
    - sit in my yard and drink wine!
    - plant some stuff in my yard (?)
    - go to the river and swim and sun myself like a seal!
    - wear a dress
    - wear flippity-flops
    - drink iced espresso from a mason jar
    - sit on the patio at Bye n Bye
  • historically I've found summer to be a bit of a bummer as everyone is so obsessed with rivers and parks that no one wants to make a new internet website. it's a real problem for me, but I'm dealing with it.

Whatever, Mike. You're so excited about wearing your weird little boy/sailor/Brooks Bros summer outfits.
  • That's not fair, Alex.

Mike has numerous, perfectly normal little boy/sailor outfits for the summer season.
  • It's true. This summer is going to be one long FASHION SHOW!
