Fancy Gentlemen and their Fancy Gentlemen Opportunities

edited March 2012
As the sister-thread to Fancy Lady Problems I wanted to talk about supplements and diet. This isn't really gentlemen-specific, but I like the idea of the thread title.

Specifically I'm thinking about things like Jack3d*, which I have started to take before the gym. As well as adding coconut oil to my smoothies (to a lesser extent spirulina). And I've been reading about MCT oil. A lot of this stuff is weird internet-nerds trying to "hack" their bodies. They are also electrocuting their brains and playing with sleep patterns... but for now I'm interested in weird things to add to my juice and smoothies and wondering if anyone else eats weird stuff to make them "better".

*I sort of know this is a bad idea, but wow, it really works great and I'm only taking a 1/2 portion a few times a week so i'll be fine, right? RIGHT?

Comments

  • I've been taking some omegas and some D supplements, or trying to. Haven't gotten real sick all winter, which is a first. So. They're working?
  • Yeah... I know *nothing* about vitamins but it seems like some people are all for them and others think it's a total waste of money and effort. People keep telling me about vitamin D.

There is something about taking individual vitamins that is more appealing to me than a multi-vitamin. I'm not sure why.
  • A good natural source of vitamin D (and brain-augmenting Omega 3s) is cod liver oil. I do a spoonful every night before bed. Doesn't taste anywhere near as bad as it sounds.

  • I take fish oil in a pill form. I don't think I notice a difference between when I take it and when I don't, to be honest, but there's a lot of science behind it, so.... I also take Vitamin D and I take Syntha6 protein powder after working out and the day after working out.

Feel like this conversation needs to go way further to match the ladies thread, though. Let's "go there" guys. Equal rights. What kind of condom do you like best? LifeStyles UltraThin are the least annoying condoms I've encountered.

I also put flax oil and hemp protein powder in my daily smoothie.
  • My gf likes potions and salves. She has me eating Spirulina pills. They are basically salad pills, right?
  • YOU GO, GUYS
  • way back when i was in high-school i was on the swim team and pretty serious about it. leading up to big events i'd completely trick out my food intake, ingesting huge amounts of protein 10-6 days before the event (peanut-butter shakes with protein powder plus lots of meat), eating huge amounts of carbohydrates 5-1 days before the event (potatoes, pasta, bread, and supplements), and then ingesting insane amounts of calories the day of the event (juice with supplements). overall i believe it worked, i definitely had my best times when i'd do this (though this may also have been psychological) - but in hindsight the amounts of carbs and calories i was intaking was off the charts. i'd aim for 10,000* calories the day of the event! i remember there was a supplement called ULTRA FUEL i really liked:

(at this stage of my life i was counting calories and trying to eat at 5,000 - 7000 calories a day! PERFORMANCE!)

note about the above comment: i do not recommend this diet for anyone who is not a teen-aged competitive swimmer. my usual lunch back then was two Big Macs and a large milkshake!
  • I read something about how you should eat X number of calories per pound you weigh, but now I can't remember the number, so that's not very helpful.

I just bought the Fish Oil (on Amazon, which is up 3.6% for me). And Sarah Johnson just gave me some Hemp Protein. I was adding some tofu to my smoothies after working out. Today I added some leftover green juice to my smoothie and it tasted kind of gross like wet grass but in a way where I thought, "I bet this is good for me!"
  • i am sure that much of the science that fueled my crazy diet has since been debunked (this was way back in the late 80s!)

i think vegetables and protein are the key. vitamin D and fih oil is good too! especially for guys and their hearts.
  • @Marc_Zuckerburg As a Republican I don't use condoms. I use abstinence.
  • @bigmacattack But could you do the butterfly??? Such a hard stroke to master.
  • that was my event! i was (2nd team) all-conference in the 100 yard butterfly!
  • doing that stroke with my long arms garnered me the nickname 'the albatross'
  • How many of us have had a doctor's finger up the rear? It happened to me around 18 because I had a UTI and he wanted to check things out. Feel like I'm probably closing in on my 2nd time soon now that I'm over 30.
  • edited March 2012
Sometimes I attempt butterfly just for laughs. It burns the most calories of all the strokes, so at least you were keeping pace with your intake.
  • I am intruding on this Safe Space to tell you that at 17 when I decided to become sexually active (like a BOMB about to GO OFF, let me tell you) and like a responsible lady I went to Planned Parenthood for the first time, to get a pelvic exam and thus The Pill, and during said exam the nurse practitioner suddenly and WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR PREAMBLE WHATSOEVER, stuck her finger up my rear. I just thought this must be a normal part of a pelvic exam (it is not). This has never happened to me again.

    WHAT GIVES

As to gentlemen-specific "going there" questions, I would like to know if any real boys actually are uptight about the size of their you-know-whats. Is this a real thing? It seems so silly, yet pop culture informs me it is literally all any of you ever think about.

    Discuss (please)

I will leave now and go back to the menstruation hut thread
  • I feel like I have a normal sized you-know-what, so it's never been an issue for me. We do make a lot of jokes about it, though. Just a tried and true go-to joke for guys.

Related: Although I feel OK about my naked body, I really hate showering in public with a bunch of dudes at the gym. It just feels gross and skeevy. The ladies at my gym get shower curtains, but the guys do not. Presumably because we would be jerking off 24/7 in there if we had privacy. Sucks.
  • Re: size - I was uptight about not being circumcised because I got a lot of shit in jr. high about it. These days, I'm proud and glad of it. But yeah. Fuck you, American junior high boys. I was so insecure about it for a long time!

Most ding dongs are around the same size when erect, are they not?

Related: I only got into trimming a few years ago, but it is nicer aesthetically and feels better to me. Other guys?
  • Yeah, I also only got into trimming in recent years for the same reasons.
  • speaking on behalf of womankind, with respect to the male you-know-what area: I love a good trim! But a clean shave: NO NO NO

    why? I don't know
  • I would never shave it because of:
    A) Razor Burn
    B) Razor Bumps
    C) Danger
    D) Looking like a little boy weirdo with no pubes
  • I just went to the doctor and I totally expected a prostate exam because I'm 31, but the doctor didn't check out downstairs, like at all. I thought it was weird because I seem to remember past doctors at least looking at my wiener and balls (for testicular cancer, I guess?).

Then again, I did ask about getting a vasectomy so maybe he was like, "why bother, this dude is about to go to an EXPERT in that area."

The best condoms are durex AVANTI Bare because they latex free and so they don't have that funky latex smell.

I used to be self-conscious about wiener size, or maybe just getting naked in front of people in general. I hated taking a shower in locker rooms. But now I realize I'm a regular sized dude and even if I wasn't, WHO CARES. I now understand why Will Ferrell is so willing to get naked in movies so much. It's funny and WHO CARES what people think. Still prefer some privacy in the shower, though.

Also porn stars have such monster cocks that I bet A LOT of guys are a little self-conscious in that area.
  • Guys, are we going to break it to the ladies that all men watch porn?

Or should that remain a secret here in the guy thread.
  • Haha, nice link.
  • I say keep it to ourselves.
  • This morning I added Hemp Protein and Brewer's Yeast to my smoothie. Why the fuck would you add brewer's yeast?

Firstly because we got it for an HK recipe and now there is a whole tub of it.

    And...

"The chromium in brewer's yeast might help you maintain healthy levels of blood sugar."
"Brewer's yeast also contains a healthy amount of protein."
"Brewer's yeast might also help you to naturally maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels."
"Brewer's yeast is also a rich source of various B vitamins."
"The chromium and B-complex vitamins found in brewer's yeast might also help you treat certain skin conditions, such as acne flare-ups, eczema and infant cradle cap."
"The active ingredients in brewer's yeast might alter the microbial flora in the large intestine, which can help you treat bouts of infectious diarrhea."

    NOT TOO BAD!

    Today my Fish Oil arrives...
  • Oh, and I finally weighed myself after not doing that for about three months when the battery in my electronic scale died. I'm 175! Which is fantastic because I used to be pumped to stay under 200 and at the end of last year I was about hovering around 185.

According to my BMI as a person who is 5'10" my "normal weight" would be a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 and at 175 I'm 25.1. I don't really have a weight goal, but I think I'm about the healthiest I've been since the government made me be in shape in case they wanted me to murder someone.
  • Four of the six statements about brewer's yeast contain the word "might":
    "... might help you ..."
    "... might also help ..."
    "... might also help ..."
    "... might alter ..."

I'm not convinced of its benefits.
  • B vitamins are pretty crucial tho.
  • edited March 2012
Well, I'm not totally convinced. But I "might" be...

THE FISH OIL IS HERE! THE FISH OIL IS HERE.

My smoothie tomorrow is going to be so weird you guys:

Banana, frozen blueberries, frozen cranberries, brewer's yeast, hemp protein powder, spirulina, wheatgrass powder, almond butter, fish oil, yogurt, almond milk, and a touch of cinnamon. Maybe I'll make a little video.
  • GLOBALIZATION = MAXIMALISM
  • might just want to down the fish oil separate. Flax oil in smoothie is pretty chill.
  • But I really love adding things to my smoothie...
  • I know, I also wish I could just drink every meal (except for special occasions).
  • you guys should check out alan forkner's smoothie... it has less supplements, but more of a "devil-may-care" attitude.

    recent combo:
    banana
    hemp milk
    yogurt
    spinach
    peanut butter
    frozen blueberries
    frozen mango
    green food powder
shredded wheat crumbs "because it's fiber"

I'm not a fan of this flavor profile!
I don't want any cereal dregs in my cool fancy drink!
  • New personal record in my health and fitness times. I weighed 171.7 lbs this morning after going to the gym (before I drank my smoothie). HOLY SHIT!

I bought a new scale. It has WiFi. It also sends electricity through my body to find out how much "lean mass" vs. "fat" I have. I have about 35 lbs of fat. Percent wise I think I should be 13% to 17% (according to Lance Armstrong).
