I think I've been inside one, but everything was way too pricey. Maybe I have something from J Crew in my wardrobe, but if so it definitely came from the ol' Goodwill. On the whole, I'm a fan of the J Crew "look."

To be fair, my own use of Brooks is not based on any fashion sensibility. That was a side effect of desiring a uniform that fit the corporate brand. It's not my fault I look so good.

If I was just starting out and picking a brand J Crew would be in the running.

My J Crew suit was $400 which is mid-range for a decent suit I think. You could go lower but you wouldn't look as sharp. You could also obviously go much higher/sharper, but this is academia not wall street

It is COMPLETELY TRUE. Even sale. And they have a lot of sales! I learned it reading Bloomberg Businessweek. They never even check my ID! I forgot about it last week and came back the next day and they retroactively applied the discount, they were so nice.
