internet WTF?

edited April 2012
i am experiencing such a weird issue that i don't even know how to put it into words to google:

yesterday i completed a pretty big overhaul of a website i run and moved it to a new server. everything seemed fine and good, but the new site wouldn't appear in my browser- the old one kept showing up. i made sure to clear all histories and cookies, but the old one still appeared when i typed the URL into the browser. I assumed that it was just the DNS servers of my ISP (CenturyLink) hadn't refreshed and were still pointed at the old site on the old server. NBD i thought, just give it some time and they'll kick over. So i took a break, and while away typed in the URL on my smartphone, and cool- there's my new site, needing a lot of tweaking but there it was. so i rushed home to jump on my computer to start the fine tuning- but shit fuck, my desktop's ISP still is pointed to the old site. I got on my laptop and borrowed my neighbors wi-fi, which lead my to the new site!, but then i switch to my own wifi- back to the old site!!

it's like every service provider but CenturyLink has updated their pointers and is recognizing the new site on the new host. but until CenturyLink updates their shit I can't do the final bits of updating the site- so the rest of the world sees my crappy work in progress site. it's been 21 hours since every ISP but CenturyLink recognized my new site, but I am still stuck looking at my old one.

WTF INTERNET???

  • Did you also clear your cache? Try holding shift and hitting reload.
  • Yeah try the cache but to me this sounds like a DNS issue. It can take some laggard ISPs up to 48 hours to refresh their records. Wait another day and then see if it loads.
  • yes, i have cleared it and cleared it and refreshed and cleared it. NO DICE!

the real catch is that my laptop (which has wifi) can see both sites, depending on the ISP i am logged into to. ??!!

please go to www.peripheralproduce.com and tell me what you see, and tell me who your ISP is.
  • Between testing on a mac
APPS>UTILITIES>TERMINAL dscacheutil -flushcache (to clear DNS cache on your computer)

    Then TERMINAL>dig yourdomain.com
    can give some infos.
  • FINALLY after 36 hours, CenturyLink updated their servers and I can finish work on the site. Wow if I was a professional or this site was super important I would have been completely screwed. more fuel to the fire that CenturyLink is really really bad (as was discussed on a different thread)

    thanks for the help everyone!
