uploading really big files

edited February 2012
hello smart internet friends-

i need to upload some 'big ass' files to the internet. by big i mean like 2 GBs. the problem is that i have a rinky-dink ISP that is slow and unreliable, and uploading files of this size completely trips shit up. so my question is- where does one like myself go to obtain some super-fast-high-speed internet access for a period of time?

  • My internet is pretty damn fast. You are welcome to drink a beer and upload away. Or you can always go to a coffeeshop -- most have at least a cable wifi connection.
  • Panic? Bobby_Briggs's house?
  • Could there be a way to split up files into smaller bits, and then put them back together again.

I remember doing this in DOS for floppies. "Pkzip"
  • BTW
for anybody transferring large files to another being, I highly recommend https://www.wetransfer.com/. It's about the easiest thing to use, and quite reliable.
  • i am uploading a 70 minute video to Vimeo, so unfortunately i can't break it into chunks or use something like wetransfer, but mr briggs i might take you up on your offer. let me see if i can find someone with one of those pro-style 25MBS per second deals first, but if not i'll take you up.

apparently film festivals aren't interested in DVDs anymore, now it's all about the password protected online deal. which is mind-blowing considering that it was only 10 years ago that many festivals required you to submit a movie on a 16mm film print!
  • yeah, it's crazy. I remember submitting by betaSP, which is a pain in the ASS. I feel okay about this change.

oh, and I'm at 30MBS. Officially PRO.
  • @bigmacattack Let's get lunch and set up your computer on the company network. It's fast!

Also I just heard about the YouTube film fest. You should submit to that.
  • cool. how does your schedule look tomorrow (wednesday?)
  • I'll be at work all day! I'll check with the boss and okay this plan first thing in the morning (10am) and then email you.

    WE ARE A GO!

    When is good?

Also, what is the best email for you? I have one that is rodeotimes and one that is freshproduce...
  • Currently watching film fest submissions. One of them had their previous fest awards on the thumbnail image, and it was a really good idea, because I paid closer attention to that film.

    HOT TIP.
