I have been blowing through them lately because I listen to them all day at work. I need some new ones. Are there any regular podcast listeners around? I just subscribed to CBGL. I already am subscribed to pretty much all the semi-decent NPR stuff and some stuff from my friend Gary. I am currently into sports, video games, space, comics, music (but not really music podcasts for some reason, but maybe there is something I missed), crafts, novels, and am open to listening about anything interesting really.

Occasionally it will touch on topics I care less about, but it is consistently good and sometimes so good I would marry it.

"Wiretap" is also pretty special. It is hosted by Jonathan Goldstein of This American Life fame.

I am also into his comedy show, Jordan Jesse Go.
All of the others I used to listen to don't post regularly anymore (including mine... eep!).
And the Dinner Party Download is good.
I totally second Wiretap. Greatest show ever.
Doug Loves Movies - Comedians and celebrities talk about movies and then play movie trivia based on Leonard Maltin reviews.
agree with JJGo and Best Show on WFMU recs. I sometimes regret recommending the Best Show b/c it has a learning curve and it's very long. If you stick with it you might love it. OR NOT.
also Pod F Tompkast and Superego if you want sketch-style comedy.
I'll give it some more chances because I do really like things that I don't like and then like.
I also listened to Conversations by Gary Lacrosse which I actually enjoyed a lot, but also made me feel stupid and duped about a couple of things which sucks.
It's been on every Tuesday on one of the greatest radio stations in the world for 10+ years.
Tom Scharpling as the archetypal know it all grumpy talk radio host is brilliant. He takes you on a journey every week from feeling like he is so right on about some of his rants to being so appalled at what a blowhard jerk he can be.
Scharpling and Jon Wurster's bits are the mountaintop for long form comedy. What they have done on that show is truly staggering. So many amazing characters. Wurster's timing is among the greatest of all time, and I love Scharpling's switch from the aggresor (during all the regular callers) to being the straight man during Wurster's calls.
PLUS, Tom is great with in studio guests. There was a recent great interview with Vanessa Bayer of SNL. Tom and Paul F. Tompkins are so great together (they are developing a show for Comedy Central). Plus, Todd Barry and Zach Galifianakis and a bunch of other greats are regular guests.
Other podcasts that have yet to be mentioned that I listen to and love:
Comedy Bang Bang - Scott Aukerman (Mr. Show writer and Between Two Ferns writer/producer) hosts a comedy podcast that is improv bit/character heavy and can be insanely funny. Great guests all the time.
Who Charted - Howard Kremer and Kulap Vilaysack get to know a guest by going through music and movie charts and cracking wise.
How Was Your Week with Julie Klausner - She often gets guests outside the normal comedy podcast guest circle like Jackeé, Sally Kellerman, Joan Rivers.
I skip to the interviews!
I recommend all you Best Show listeners call in. It's fun.
The thought of calling in gives me a rash.
Kudos to you.
I will seek out The Best Show.
I love Best Show
I love Doug Loves
I love Conversations
*What made you feel duped/dumb about Conversations? That bums me out*
One thing I think no one has recommended, which I think is because of my friend group's WEIRD ASS REFUSAL TO ENJOY BRITISH COMEDY FUCK YOU PEOPLE
is The Ricky Gervais podcast. It is SO FUCKING FUNNY. I laugh so hard, all the way through it, and there are hours and hours and hours. The actual show has 3 seasons, and then there are a lot of bonus free episodes and then the Guide To series (Guide To Philosophy, Guide to Art, Guide to the World Cup etc)
I really can not recommend them highly enough. Such weird shit going on, such funny jokes, such a wonderful new character to meet in the form of Karl Pilkington.
I have listened to the "Dogs" episode of the Ideas podcast Joey recommended and it is great. It seems so Canadian to me. The host is like "Do dogs dream" and then there's long pauses while people consider. He tells a long story about how his dog can always hear this tin of christmas cookies no matter how carefully/quietly he opens it
Yes, I guess I have to agree with Zombie here. What she is describing of "Ideas" makes me realize how Canadian of a show it is. They constantly have panels about multiculturalism, which to me is also very Canadian.
Christmas cookies, tea, radio, and talks on multiculturalism. That's Canada for you.
did you enjoy the Idiot Abroad series?
second season was just announced and should start soon!
Nothing will ever be better than Darkplace.
TOO MANY PODCASTS!!!!!!
Thumbs up.
Took a few listens to think that though.
