Tiny Town, Population: 3

edited May 2013
So AFJ introduced me to this guy Robby, who makes origami and does iOS programming. We're working together now on Jumpbots! and it turns out he knows @lolo because they are both from Denton, TX. And Jason Anderson is playing in his house next month. (He has also met @uncleboatshoes.)

This is a thread about Portland, AKA Tiny Town, and how we actually all already know each other.

Yesterday at a coffee shop I ran into a friend of @arijkem's who has been looking at the same warehouse spaces as I have been and it turns out we want to use a space for the same thing*.

POSSIBLY NSFW OR NSFL DEPENDING ON YR PREFERENCES
  • Wait, so who are the 3 people that live in this tiny town? @lolo, @uncleboatshoes, and @arijkem?
  • It's always 3 people because it's tiny.
  • Today I very randomly ran into an internet friend who I know only because my vimeo friends in NYC were in love with her right when vimeo started (dv, you know who I'm talking about). I've only met her once or twice irl. But the internet told me this week that she had a baby! And he was so cute in those tumblr pictures! And it just so happens I am working on a study at Kaiser with pregnant ladies so I was trolling around hospital clinics today looking for ladies to interview and there she was! With her 3-day old baby waiting for the doctor to give him his first blood test.

    Portland.
  • I know who you are talking about, flossy, cause i was vague internet friends with her and then she married someone i went to college with.

Also, I met Robby years ago through Lolo then randomly met him again when Jason Anderson played in his house like 8 months ago and then talked to him at your surprise party (mostly about the origami convention he's going to).

I KNOW EVERY HUMAN IN THE WORLD (its a curse that i can't escape)
  • I know who you're talking about too, Flossy!
Right after UBS, Jona and Mike were on the cover of the Willamette Week Mike and I were leaving a Timber's game. From across Burnside a female voice screamed, "I READ YOUR BLOG!!!" Mike yelled back, "Thanks!" She screamed, "NOT YOU! HER!"

And then she married a college friend I used to prank all the time.

    Tiny world!
  • That sex club needs a copyeditor.
  • Man I really want to know who you guys are talking about!

    "LC Occurrences"

  • oh fun! she's famous!
  • That's cool that that person we all know had her baby. She seems like she'd raise a happy kid. Also, very funny that all of us knowing her just reinforces this thread.
  • I know Robby - he's the nicest dude! I'm glad you guys are working together.
  • Why isn't she on urho, anyway?

I like the story of my friend, whom I did not know at the time, who went over to her friend's house one day. She was on "just walk in anytime" terms with her friend and so that is what she did. But there was something strange about her friend's house, things seemed different. And then a stranger walked out of one of the bedrooms.

Startled, my friend said, "who are you"? And the stranger said, "Who are you?"

And she said, "No, seriously. Who are you? Where is K__?"

And the stranger said, "No, seriously. Who are you and what are you doing in @Lolo's house?"

And that is the legend of how T-Bird met @UncleBoatShoes in the town of 3 people and one house.
  • Wait, who walked into my house? I'm SO confused.

PS. I LOVE ROBBIE SO MUCH!!!!
  • I could have confused a few essential details.

Wasn't one of your first houses in Portland that one up by the airport and sloughs?

That mid-century affair with the pretty luxe basement? I remember attending a party there for visiting minstrels from Marfa....

As I understand it, the previous tenant in that same house was a friend of Tahoe's and she met @UBS there under the circumstances I described above. (A couple of years before I met Tahoe.)
  • I lived in a lil mid century dream -- yes. I get it -- the story was about the tenant before me!! I think her name was Natalie.

@Uncleboatshoes -- it's so neat how you know everyone.

Yes! That's it, Natalie. But no, the story is from when you lived there. Tahoe went to see Natalie, but walked into what was no longer her house but what was by then your house and Steve was there and she goes, accusingly, "What are you doing here?" And he goes, "What are YOU doing here?" Etc.

I think it is hilariously awkward and wonderful, especially since now I know both sets of strangers.

Big house in a tiny town.
  • Do you mean TAHOE JACKSON?

I had a crazy random meet up with her in Portland, too. She ordered buttons from my lil 1" button company and I realized I knew her through Natalie.

Do people on this board know her? She seemed pretty amazing-eccentric. She was really hard to do business with via e-mail...

That is the person I mean, yes. We have become very close in recent years and she definitely moves her own way. From my experience I would agree that text-based communication can have mysterious properties in her hands.

What I like about this story about confusion at Natalie's/your house is that ever since I heard it I can see it like a movie. I can SEE Tahoe coming in and looking around, bewildered by how "Natalie" has changed the look of the place. I can SEE @UBS coming out of a room...

    Roll camera!

Also, it is amusing and On Topic to know that you probably made this little pin of Tahoe as Centurion that I have.
  • She's Dr. J's girlyfriend.
  • I love that story.

    I made that pin!

UBS!! I keep hoping to run into you one of these days...
