I spent the first real spring Sunday afternoon here in Belgium testing out a recipe chosen for me by my friends, Hot Knives, out of their coming cookbook, Salad Daze. They, fittingly, chose the deeply autumnal recipe of Belgian onion soup for me test. After a ridiculously long email full of notes and thoughts to A&E (hi dudes!), the recipe turned out perfectly rich, sweet and complex. The following are a series of photographs allowing us all to take a little walk down the memory lane of my most recent Sunday (yesterday) and check out what one of these elusive new Hot Knives recipes will look like for a regular old you or me.
