Here I am, the newest sticky and cold, just born member of the existentialmedia family. I’d like to thank my mother, Matthew, for the invitation and for helping me conceive of and give birth to my newest identity. You won’t see long blocks of text here. I’ve just found out that I need trifocals. My difficulty staring at long pieces of text without squinting has helped me decide that I’d rather share photos with you. But now and then, I get inspired. Plus, I’d love to introduce myself.
Having just subbed a freshman class called “the history of the universe,” I was forced to confront my staggeringly literal smallness in the scheme of actual and real universal time and space. Space and time seem a bit outdated, like they belong to a bygone era. Really, there are still forces of the universe that can keep me from having exactly what I want the moment I want it? I’m not a demanding person, but it seems difficult to imagine that right now, in 2008, even I, with a 6 year old dell laptop and incriminatingly low technological knowledge, have a blog and yet, even the most technologically advanced among us can’t just close his or her eyes and rematerialize wherever, whenever. I want few things, but I want them bad. Can people get to work on this problem?
And then there was the big bang. Everything, the universe, life, matter, time and space, TIME AND SPACE, did not exist before this. As incomprehensible as this all is, I can’t help but wonder if the people and things that I miss on the other side of the world existed as they were, are now and will be right next to me in a tight hot little ball? If time and space didn’t exist before the big bang, then did the compacted version of the universe contain all of time and space at once? I feel refreshed, if not somewhat nostalgic, knowing that we were all together in a vacuum, even if we did promptly explode.
congrats molly! welcome to the future.
Whoa! You made it! It was so nice getting to know you a little bit more the other night, and I am so excited to see your photos and read your thoughts. This is a fine addition, indeed!
