Targeted Social Engagements

Money follows trust and trust is built over time. The point of RTSN is to multiply the number of connections you are a part of. The practical applications manifest in actions like connecting two people on a project. While the immediate effect is not a monetary gain for you it does increase your value in the network of both people you connected, thus raising the value of your network.
While RTSN is something to adopt in all parts of your life, another key concept is Targeted Social Engagements (TSE). TSE activity falls under two general categories.
The worst TSE is a Networking TSE where the point is to put a lot of people in a room and try to force business to happen. Because this is awkward and forced, it rarely results in much more than people enjoying some free food. Business is an exchange of goods or services for money, but money follows trust, and no one who just met at a table of cold cuts is going to have any reason to trust the other person. Business is difficult when forced.
A more effective TSE is the Personal TSE. Birthday parties, weddings, July 4th BBQs, and other gatherings based on a central actor (usually the host) and that have no overtones of business. People are relaxed and around people they already know or want to know. There is drinking, plenty of trust, and opportunities for a lot more business. (Of course a person who abuses a Personal TSE by handing our cards and trying to drum up business will soon be ostracized and ridiculed.)
Money Blog is testing out a new category of TSE. The Private TSE is a small group gathered to perform a specific task with the side-effect being closer personal relationships between participants. By co-ordinating the Private TSE we hope to gain the same benefits of RTSN but in a larger scale over time. Throughout history there is a pattern of great work coming out of Private TSE, and our theory is that we can create a template for a Private TSE than can be used by anyone.

Yikes! With only a couple weeks left in the season I don’t think it is possible for Mike to come all the way back all he can really do is hope to cut a hundred or so off that total. Will they continue to bet into the playoffs? Will the stakes be raised? Will Mike be given a chance to win back his loses??
Mike now is now officially familiar with the concept of:

A RECAP OF STEVE’S WEEK (030 – 034)

Nov 25
I gained $10 on these 12 games. I’m down a total of $35.
Nov 26
Only two games on Thanksgiving and Steve picked a pair of losers (Atlanta and the Bulls). I’m still down $25.
Nov 27
Another full day of basketball. 11 games and Steve won five of them, allowing me to limit my losses to just $20.
Nov 28
Of the five games played, Steve won three, gaining another $5 on me, making it $25 I owe him.
Nov 29
Steve’s last day of picks and we maintain the debt of $25 I owe him.
Now we start Mike’s Week and a return to THE SYSTEM.

CATCHING UP WITH NBA ACTION (017-028)

thejackson.jpg
When we left off, on the evening of November 12th, Steve was beating me by four games, which in the parlance of our commitment to wagering, is also known as twenty dollars, AKA, THE JACKSON. Steve’s innate understanding of the game of basketball, a subject he has studied for well over twenty years, has given him an insight into the game that he is unable to articulate. It’s the mind’s equivilent of muscle memory. Truely the man is a genius when we talk of the National Basketball Association. So how did this mightly mind fare for the rest of the week? Let’s take a look…
The 12th (Steve Picks)
Cleveland 111 @ Miami 104 (+1)

And then, after all this, it’s my turn to take the reigns. Normally this is where I would predict wild fortune for THE SYSTEM, but unfortunately THE SYSTEM was not used this week. This is a week of Mike’s Innate Understanding of Gambling on Basketball (MIUGOB). I will say, before tallying the results, I am not confident in the use of MIUGOB. Let’s take a look…
