blind from chintz

What is it with these particular Swedish / French dudes’ impulses to remix american R&B artists into schmaltzy disco or retro ’80s pop? I realize treble might make more sense than bass in the EU’s chillier and hillier topographies (Dave Tompkins might attribute that to the lack of paleozoic detritus deep in the ice floes). But to paraphrase our mans in his old Phrenology review (graff 5, last sentence), electro without bass is an empty threat. Plus I’m real mad at that Fred Flax Alain Floxx remix of “Bossy” because I feel like it robbed the song of its essential Kelis-ness — it removed the gravity of her words and turned the pants-wearer of the Rogers-Jones union into just another playful, carefree dancefloor dancer. More Bordeaux than boardroom and that ain’t the point. Plus those synths are WAY too “ Hotel Gansevoort rooftop” for my digging. REVISIONISM!
