Wait, this dude is still alive? At first I was totally picturing him having died 75 years ago after sustaining a long relationship via letters with someone like Proust. Because when were writers trying to encompass the whole of the meaningful meaninglessness of human existence in one massive multi-part novel? Yeah.

On the other hand I am super excited to see anyone writing about Lolita without concentrating on the “oh she is totally a siren & temptress even though she’s 12 and clearly being raped repeatedly at best” concept that so many people seem to think is the point of the book, even though it’s basically the exact opposite. There was a Tumblr post about all the different Lolita covers/movie posters exemplifying that exact misinterpretation. GOSH WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT OUR CULTURE

This description makes me glad I chose to spend the last year reading Elena Ferrante over Karl Ove. I can’t tell, should I still try him though?
